Several photographs are taken across bodies of water towards small coastal towns and villages. The images include the church of William Duncan, a Church of England missionary, and crest poles at the Tsimishian community. There is a photograph of the U.S.S. Iowa in dry dock at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington.

These views show Revenue Cutter Service ships and officers; Alaskan natives; towns; scenery; the fur trade and mission schools. The collection also depicts Alaskan native graves; missionaries; walrus hunting; whaling ships; totem poles; officers in the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service; Greek Orthodox church buildings; the first grand jury in Nome, Alaska; James Gilchrist Swan; and a portrait of one of the collection's photographers, Alfred Lee Broadbent.
