  Dain L. Tasker photograph collection

  Visual Materials

  The collection consists of 61 gelatin silver prints made from x-ray negatives produced by Dr. Dain Loren Tasker. The collection also includes one hand-formed copper wire cursive signature label for x-rays and a hand-hammered copper and wood photograph album cover. A small number of the prints are labeled and signed by the artist. Many of the plant identifications were made by Joseph Bellows Gallery or The Huntington Botanical Department. The prints depict x-ray images of a variety of flowers and plants as well as one snail. The prints range in size from 9 x 12.5 cm to 32 x 40 cm.

  This album contains 428 photographs taken primarily between 1905 and 1908 in British Columbia, California, and Washington, with many views of baskets and basket collections, as well as some views of Grace Nicholson's shop at 46 N. Los Robles in Pasadena. Most photographs were taken by Nicholson and Carroll S. Hartman, though there are some by commercial photographers W.T. Fitch, Benjamin A. Gifford, J.A. Haran, Frank La Roche, and S. G. Morse, as well as unidentified photographers. Some of the commercial photographs date before 1905. Tribes represented: Dwamish [i.e. Duwamish]; Kaskimo; Makah; Mojave [i.e. Mohave]; Nootka; Paiute; Pomo; Quinault; Wasco.
