Mountain dream tarot : a deck of 78 photographic cards
Visual Materials
Bea Nettles first began shooting photographs for Mountain Dream Tarot in Penland from 1970-1974. She continued photographing different models in Philadelphia for this set, but waited to print until she acquired technical expertise in printing half tone. The publication of her next two books, Events in the Water and Events in the Sky, gave her the technical proficiency she sought, and she started printing for Mountain Dream Tarot in Philadelphia. She used a labor-intensive process which involved blending negative over negative in print and re-photographing original hand-colored prints for publishing. The tarot cards were largely produced in Philadelphia, but some were made in Rochester as well. In total, 800 decks were produced, which were then sold and distributed by Nettles through Light Impressions.
