Photograph and scrapbook album of women's trip to Mexico

A travel album of photographs, ephemera and typescript narrative, documenting a car trip taken by four Texas women to Mexico and back in August and September 1938. Typed diary pages are pasted on several album pages detailing the people and places the women encountered and the experiences they had. The photographs include snapshots of residents, towns and villages, ancient temples, churches and convents, with some images of the four women who are only identified as Elizabeth, Juanita, "Sister," and M.S. They are seen with their guide, "Mr. Castillo," on a riverboat in Xochimilco in Mexico City, and also traveling by car in the mountains and countryside. Comments in the narrative discuss the use of travel conveniences such as Western Union and Wells Fargo, having to speak Spanish, the activities of indigenous peoples, and scenic wonders. The album is bound in wooden covers and has a carved illustration depicting a rural Mexican scene, most likely purchased on the trip. Also included in the album are photographic postcards, menus, brochures, and other ephemera collected from the trip.

An album of 296 snapshot photographs documenting two excursions by automobile across the United States and into Mexico in the late 1930s by a group of young men who appear to have been students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts. The first trip, in July and August of 1937, includes numerous scenes in Washington, D.C., Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, Mexico, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Utah, Wyoming, and New York. Their travels involved stops at the Tennessee Valley Authority power station at Muscle Shoals, Alabama; Carlsbad Caverns National Park; Grand Canyon National Park; Boulder Dam; Death Valley; Sequoia and Yosemite national parks; Yellowstone National Park; and Niagara Falls. In Mexico, they toured the capital and saw a bullfight. The majority of photographs have handwritten captions in white pencil describing locations. Other images depict collegiate sports, including track and golf, and some mountain climbing. Another western excursion in 1938 includes visits to the Royal Gorge of the Arkansas, Colorado locations, and another visit to Yosemite National Park. The remaining photographs consist of views of the WPI campus, the destructive impact of the 1938 New England hurricane, and stops at unidentified hydroelectric engineering sites.

Photograph album of Barbara Hartman's automobile travels across the United States

A travel album of approximately 500 snapshots and a few lithographic cards and commercially-produced photographs, compiled by a young woman named Barbara Hartman who lived in Seattle and possibly the Los Angeles area. The photographs are annotated with neatly-written captions that contain identifications and recollections of multiple automobile trips across the American West, to the East Coast and to the South in the years 1946-1949. The album documents ski trips to Snoqualmie Pass, Washington; nature and wildlife in Oregon and Wyoming; excursions to Glacier National Park and a stay at Many Glacier Hotel; the French Quarter, New Orleans; Miami and the Florida Keys; the Mammoth Caves, Kentucky; Washington D.C.; Mount Vernon; Philadelphia; New York City; Chiricahua National Monument and the town of Hayden, Arizona; the redwoods of Northern California; several popular tourist destinations in Southern California (including a visit to the Huntington Library); and repeat visits to a mountain cabin in Lake Arrowhead, California. A couple of different young women, identified only by first names, and sometimes her parents and others are pictured on trips with Barbara, who presumably took most of the photographs. There are scenes of large family gatherings and some trips to relatives' houses in different parts of the country. Photographs at the beginning of the album show Barbara and other young women outside a house in Seattle with their cats; she is also pictured ice skating with friends in Chicago and on jaunts with other women to New York City and Boston. Other scenes of note include a tour of antebellum plantation homes in Natchez, Mississippi; the Date Festival in Indio, California; and two women posing in a tourist "Tijuana jail" photo booth. This album provides a rich visual representation of automobile touring in postwar America and the experiences of women travelers.

A photographic album with 127 photographs of Los Angeles, Pasadena, the Arroyo Seco, and surrounding areas in Southern California. The photographs include views of the Hotel Green and the Carnival (later the Festival) of Roses in Pasadena, the Los Angeles City Oil Field taken from Westlake Park, and informal group photographs in nearby camping areas like Camp Sturtevant in the Angeles National Forest and Wilson's Peak. Several group photographs taken in front of houses and include dogs. There are also some views of Niagara Falls and the James A. Garfield Memorial in Cleveland, Ohio, and 16 clippings of inspirational articles from the Christian Science Monitor.

A disbound photograph album of 69 commercial photographs of the American West and Alaska. Most of the images are views of natural landscapes, featuring waterfalls, glaciers, geysers, and mountains, and were taken in Santa Barbara, California; Yosemite National Park; Yellowstone National Park; and Alaska. Buildings depicted include the Santa Barbara Mission, Stanford University, and Lick Observatory. Almost all of the photographs were taken in the western United States or Alaska, but there are also two photographs of Ausable Chasm in New York and one photograph of Niagara Falls. Identified photographers include William Henry Jackson, J.C. Parker, N.H. Reed, I.W. Taber, George Fiske, Laura Broughton Watkins, Andrew P. Hill, Seneca Ray Stoddard, and Watkins and Hill.

The album, one of three depicting the Henry Family of Los Angeles, California, contains 403 snapshots, presumably compiled by Alexander Ellwood Henry (1890-1979) and primarily consisting of group portraits of the Henry family and unidentified individuals between 1907 and 1916. The photographs reflect trips and outings to a variety of locations in California (Santa Catalina Island, Pasadena, Venice, Los Angeles, Big Bear, Yosemite, San Francisco), as well as Niagara Falls, Canada, Europe, and Japan. There are many images of Henry and his friends as teenagers and young adults. Among the images are photographs of Henry's brother Thomas Cecil Henry (died 1910) as a student at Stanford around 1908-1910, the Henry home at 1400 S. Manhattan Place in Los Angeles, and individuals at the beach.
