    Scenic Points in Southern California: Tanner Motor Tours photograph album

    A promotional photograph album for Tanner Motor Tours with an embossed title on the cover, a first page listing tours and prices, and 41 gelatin silver 8 x 10-inch photographs adhered to paper pages. The photographs have imbedded titles and document places of interest, approximately 1930s, in Pasadena, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Riverside, Ontario, San Diego, and Agua Caliente, Mexico. Three images show people riding in the Tanner Motor Tours motor coaches, or small buses. There are several images of motion picture studios: Hal Roach, R.K.O.-Pathe, and M.G.M. studios in Culver City; Fox Movietone City, Westwood; United Artists, Hollywood; and Universal Pictures in Universal City. Other images of note are: oil wells in Huntington Beach; the Angelus Temple, bearing signs for Aimee Semple McPherson; Casa Figueroa, the home of Ramon Figueroa; and the home of Pio Pico in Whittier. Photographs are credited to Dingman & Dreessen?, Long Beach, California. Some pages are missing photographs.

    Album of photographs of Los Angeles County, California, and Denver, Colorado

    An album with approximately 250 photographs of Los Angeles County, California, and Denver, Colorado. Views of Los Angeles and vicinity include street scenes, oil derricks, Angel's Flight, the North Beach Bath House and Bowling Pavilion in Santa Monica, Arcadia Hotel in Santa Monica, Castle Green in Pasadena, and Cawston Ostrich Farm and its solar-powered engine, the "Solar Motor" (a cone-shaped reflector used to collect and focus sunlight). Views of Denver include the State Capitol building and the BPO Elks Golden Jubilee celebration, held in 1914. Several winter scenes (probably from Colorado) feature large groups ice-skating. There are views of unidentified rural landscapes of plains, farms, and railroad tracks through wooded areas. A photograph near the end is labeled "A study in bronze" and shows six Native American children seated on two donkeys with a Native American man standing nearby.

Included are views of the Plaza Church; central Los Angeles; Los Angeles area parks (East Lake Park, West Lake Park, Hollenbeck Park, Elysian Park); the "new" Los Angeles County courthouse; the San Gabriel and San Fernando Missions; Baldwin's Ranch; Riverside; the Sawtelle Soldier's Home; scenes of recreational activities in Santa Monica; Redlands; Redondo Beach; the Mount Lowe cable incline railway; and Pasadena.

    A suede-covered photograph album dating from approximately 1904 containing 48 mounted photographs of Santa Cruz and environs by local photographer Charles L. Aydelotte. Subjects include beachgoers at Santa Cruz beach and views of boardwalk attractions such as the first "Neptune's Casino" (built in 1904 and destroyed by fire in 1906) and the "Electric Pleasure Pier." Other subjects include the "Wave Motor," a motor-driven water tank structure that stored salt water used to wet down dirt roads; the Big Tree Grove of redwoods; a bird's-eye-view of the town; and photographs of crashing ocean waves that appear to take on the form of human faces, with titles such as "Maid of the Mist" and "The Old Man of the Sea." Most photographs have brief captions identifying the subject and location.

    This bound photograph album contains amateur snapshots depicting life in Southern California in the late 1890s. The compiler appears to have been a schoolteacher, and there are several views of school houses (the Los Angeles Normal School and the Lamanda Park schoolhouse), shots of the interior of an elementary school classroom and class, and outings with schoolchildren. There are also images of Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, camping in the local mountains (including the Echo Mountain trolley), and at the beaches and various cities such as downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena, Redondo, San Gabriel, Lamanda Park, and Catalina. There is a series of views depicting Redondo, California, including beach cottages, the local casino, tent camping, and Biona [Ballona ?] Bay. There are also two images depicting a Chinese vegetable seller and butcher with their delivery wagons. The first part of the album contains handwritten captions.
