252 photographs from 3 albums (2 have been disbound) chiefly documenting ship building at the Concrete Ship Constructors shipyard in National City, California, in the early 1940s and construction work on dams. The images of the ship yard depict equipment and machinery, workers and supervisors, views of ships including the Concrete No. 1 ship, as well as an award ceremony. The collection also includes photographs documenting various dam projects including the Alcova Dam Project by the W.E. Callahan Construction Co. and Gunther and Shirley, in Wyoming in 1935-1937; the Madden Dam by W.E. Callahan Construction Co. and Peterson, Shirley and Gunther on the Chagres River in Panama in 1933-1934 (20 views); and a few images of miscellaneous construction including on the Shasta Dam in California, Obey River Dam in Celina, Tennessee, and the North Conches Dam in San Angelo, Texas. There are also a few later snapshots of construction projects, including ones from the 1960s documenting a Pacific Link Belt truck and crane. Collection accompanied by the booklet "Teamwork Wins," documenting a contest held by Concrete Ship Constructors, National City, California, April 1944. The collection was compiled by Arthur B. Summers, a hull superintendent of Concrete Ship Constructors in the 1940s.
