    Photograph albums of the Rix and Maurer Families

    The collection consists of six photograph albums of the Rix and Maurer families depicting life in Northern California and the San Francisco Bay area. Volume 1 (disbound) contains 48 cartes-de-visite portraits of classmates of Annie Rix in San Francisco, ca. 1874; Volume 2: disbound album of 26 cartes-de-visite portraits related to the Rix family, ca. 1860s-1880s; Volume 3: Yosemite snapshots, June 1905 (58 photographs; prints various sizes in album 19 x 27 cm); Volume 4: Snapshots, 1870s-1915 of family, friends, social gatherings, residences, and pets in San Francisco and Berkeley, including views of the buildings at the Panama Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (approx. 290 photographs; prints various sizes, album 18 x 28 cm); Volume 5: photograph album of Mildred Maurer, 1912-1916 with photographs of Lake Chabot in Piedmont Park, Diamond Canyon, and Yosemite (approximately 122 photographs; prints various sizes, album 19 x 27 cm); Volume 6: images taken in France in 1919 during World War I and in California in 1920 (approx. 300 photographs; prints various sizes, album 18.5 x 29 cm).

    Historical Society of Southern California Collection - Henry Family photograph album

    Visual Materials

    The album, one of three depicting the Henry Family of Los Angeles, California, contains 403 snapshots, presumably compiled by Alexander Ellwood Henry (1890-1979) and primarily consisting of group portraits of the Henry family and unidentified individuals between 1907 and 1916. The photographs reflect trips and outings to a variety of locations in California (Santa Catalina Island, Pasadena, Venice, Los Angeles, Big Bear, Yosemite, San Francisco), as well as Niagara Falls, Canada, Europe, and Japan. There are many images of Henry and his friends as teenagers and young adults. Among the images are photographs of Henry's brother Thomas Cecil Henry (died 1910) as a student at Stanford around 1908-1910, the Henry home at 1400 S. Manhattan Place in Los Angeles, and individuals at the beach.

    The album, one of three depicting the Henry Family of Los Angeles, California, contains 377 photographs, primarily group portraits of the Henry family and unidentified individuals, taken on trips and outings to a variety of locations in California (Avalon and Santa Catalina Island; Ramona's marriage place [Estudillo house], Hotel del Coronado and the Panama-California Exposition, in San Diego; La Jolla; Mount Lowe; Ocean Park; Big Tujunga Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains; Sunset Beach; Little Bear Lake; Big Bear Lake; Balboa; Mount Wilson; Yosemite; Tuolumne Meadows; Tioga Pass; Tenaya Lake; Mount Rubidoux in Riverside; and Lake Tahoe) and Quebec, Canada. There are many photographs of Alexander Ellwood Henry (1890-1979) and his parents Jessie Henry and Thomas B. Henry vacationing and at their house at 1400 S. Manhattan Place, Los Angeles.

    This photograph album, one of three depicting the Henry Family of Los Angeles, California, contains 362 snapshots, primarily group portraits of the Henry family and unidentified individuals taken on trips and outings to a variety of locations in California (Laguna Beach, Palm Springs, Balboa, Ojai, Playa del Rey, Big Bear Lake, Yosemite Valley). Also depicted are the family's homes at 1400 South Manhattan Place, 212 Copa de Oro Road, 9315 Doheny Road, and 620 Beverly Drive, all in Los Angeles. The album was presumably compiled by Alexander Ellwood Henry (1890-1979) Many of the photographs depict individuals swimming or wearing swimsuits at the beach or skiing or playing in the snow.
