Visual Materials
An album of photographs of the West (including Indians, rock formations, Colorado, Yellowstone) and Washington D.C., dating from the late 1860s to 1877. The album was previously owned and possibly assembled by William Henry Holmes (1846-1933), who served on the U.S. Geographical and Geological Survey of the Territories led by F. V. Hayden, also known as the Hayden Survey, in the 1870s. The beginning of the album has views by John K. Hillers of Paiute Indians (1873), made in Nevada and Utah during the U.S. Survey under John Wesley Powell. Next are views of buildings in Washington, D.C., and vicinity, including the White House, U.S. Capitol, Smithsonian Institute "Castle"; a construction view of the half-built Washington Monument; chapel in Oak Hill cemetery; and Robert E. Lee mansion, Arlington, Virginia. The remainder of the album contains views of the West, including scenery of Colorado and Montana; geysers and hot springs of the Yellowstone area of Wyoming (1871); wildlife; and one view of Nez Perce Indians in front of a tepee. Most views have been identified as those made by photographer William Henry Jackson during the Hayden Survey. Jackson and W. H. Holmes worked together on the Hayden Survey in the 1870s.

An album with 58 commercial photographs of various scenic locations in the American West and New York, chiefly containing 1-2 images per page. Locations consist of: Colorado (pages 1-8); Utah (pages 9-11); California including Lake Tahoe (page 12), San Francisco including Chinatown (page 13); Oakland (page 14), Berkeley (page 15), the Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, California (page 16); Geyser Canyon in Sonoma County (page 17), Yosemite (pages 19-27), and Mariposa Grove (pages 28-29); the mountains of Mount Shasta and Mount Tacoma (page 30) and Mount Hood (page 31); Yellowstone (pages 32-40); and Mohonk Lake, New York (pages 41-46). Views of Yosemite show El Capitan, Cathedral Spires, Royal Arches, Mirror Lake, Bridal Veil Falls, Vernal Falls, Nevada Falls, and Glacier Point. Views of Yellowstone show Mammoth Springs Hotel, Minerva Terrace, Golden Gate Canyon, Obsidian Cliffs, Hell's Half Acre, Morning Glory Spring, Old Faithful, Splendid Geyser, Sulphur Mountain, Lower Falls, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon Hotel. Views in Colorado include Manitou Springs, the Garden of the Gods, Denver, Georgetown, Curecanti Needle, and the Royal Gorge of the Arkansas. Most of the Utah photographs are the work of C. R. Savage, some of the Colorado photographs are by William Henry Jackson, some of the Yellowstone photographs are by F. Jay Haynes, the Oregon photographs are by Isaac Grundy Davidson, the Tahoe Photographs are by R. J. Waters, and most of the rest are by I. W. Taber.

Photograph album chiefly containing amateur snapshots possibly taken by Elon L. Yeomans of Wayne County, New York, from travels through the Western and Southern Unites States, and Quebec, Canada, dating from the early 1900s. The images primarily depict scenic views of natural landscapes and other tourist destinations and landmarks from locations in Colorado (including Grand Junction); California (including Riverside, Los Angeles, Catalina Island, Mount Lowe in the San Gabriel Mountains, Santa Barbara including the Santa Barbara Mission, Pacific Grove, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco); Mount Shasta; the Columbia River; Seattle, Washington; Mammoth Hot Springs; Yellowstone; Quebec, Canada, and the Saguenay River; Charleston, South Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; and Florida. Most of the photographs have handwritten captions identifying the locations depicted.

Consists of fifty copy print photographs. The majority are associated with William H. Brewer and are labeled "Wm. H. Brewer Mojave Expedition(?)" which traveled between Wilmington, California to Fort Mojave, Arizona from 1863-1864. The photos are of indigenous people, landscapes, botany, and expeditioners. Some were also attributed to the photographer Rudolph D'Heureuse. Locations include the Colorado River, Macedonian Mountains, Rock Springs, Dry Canyon, El Dorado Canyon, Tettchatticup Tunnel, Cedar Spring Canyon, Marl Spring, Warm Soda Springs (Soda Lake), Camp Cady, Lewis Spring, Sugar Loaf, Helendale, Oro Grande, Cajon Pass, and the Wozencraft House. Three photographs were taken of San Diego's Culverwell's Wharf and Horton House. Named individuals include Captain Atchisson, Chief Tercherrum, Dr. Stark, John Moss, Elder Lyman, John Peter Gabriel, and Mrs. J. P. Gabriel. Some indigenous people were identified as Mojave Paiutes (Asper-ka-miah or Eagles), and some plant life are identified as yucca, Joshua Tree, and other cacti. Some catalog cards have noted that original prints are in the holdings of the University of California, Berkeley's Bancroft Library.

Visual Materials
An album with 38 commercial photographs of the western United States, focusing especially on California and Colorado. Views of California show Los Angeles, Avalon on Santa Catalina Island, Pasadena, San Francisco, the Mount Lowe Railway, Santa Monica, San Diego, Long Beach, San Joaquin Valley, Santa Anita, the Hotel del Coronado, and San Diego Bay. Images of Colorado show Pike's Peak, the Garden of the Gods, Mountain of the Holy Cross, Curecanti Needle and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, the Grand Canyon of the Colorado, and a high bridge near Georgetown. Other places that appear briefly in the album are Yellowstone National Park; Portland, Oregon; and ice floes in the Northern Pacific Ocean. Many of the photographs of California are by Best & Co, some are by I. W. Taber, and a view of the Hotel del Coronado is by Judd Photo (Item 22).
