Description: One set of 20 plates made from steel engravings, ca. 1810. The plates have been disbound from an unnamed book source. Only the first plate is numbered. Most, if not all, of the images are of Biblical figures, such as Jesus, Mary, John and Peter. None of the images are labeled, except for Peter and John, whose names are written below the image in ms., in pencil. The first plate contains numbered geometric and simple head and shoulder drawings. Each of the remaining plates contains two images (head only) per plate. Title supplied by cataloger.

One bound Set of engravings

One bound set of engravings, untitled, unsigned, and undated (ca. 1780?). It is comprised of eight leaves of original engravings. The images are all portraits, some are single figures and others are multiple faces. The first is of a nude woman, and the engraved "label" reads "From the Venus de Medicis." The second plate is numbered "11" in the upper right-hand corner, and is comprised of three rows of heads: the top row shows four female heads in different positions, the middle row is 7 male heads from various angles, and the third row is comprised of 5 children's heads in different positions. The third plate is numbered "16" inthe lower right-hand corner; it is an image of a bearded man, side view. The fourth image is numbered "17" in the lower right-hand corner (the number is very faded); it is an image of a hooded man, gazing upward. The fifth plate is numbered "20" in the lower right-hand corner. This image is of a woman dressed in a fur-trimmed cloak wearing a double strand of pearls; she is looking down. The sixth plate contains two images of the same side view portrait of a woman; the image on the left is in outline form, the image on the right is the completed portrait. The engraving is signed "Anib. Carracche del." The seventh plate is also a double portrait of a young woman, this one is a three-quarters view and it is similarly signed "Annibal Caracci del." The eighth and last engraving is a full-frontal double-portrait of a young man with curly hair. This plate is signed "Anib. Carracche in." Title supplied by cataloger.

Set of nine drawing cards, circa 1890-1915

One set of nine drawing cards, untitled, some unnumbered, ca. 1890-1915. Eight of the 9 cards contain several color lithograph images printed against a light blue grid background. It appears that the cards had been numbered in the top left-hand corner, but most of the numbers have been cropped off. The individual images themselves are numbered; 1-9 on the first sheet; 10-18 on the second; 23-29 on the third; 30-34 on the fourth; 41-46 on the fifth; 51-60 on the sixth; 61-68 on the seventh; 69-74 on the eighth, and 75-83 on the ninth and last leaf. From this information, it is apparent that at least 3 cards are missing from the set: those with images 19-22, 35-40, and 47-50. Some of the images included are: fruit and vegetables, an American flag with 13 stars, geometric patterns and designs, 3-dimensional shapes, farming tools, and insects. There is no title, publication information, nor date printed on any of the cards. Title supplied by cataloger.

One drawing book entitled Zeichen-Vorlagen für Schulen und zum Selbstunterricht, Heft 34, published by Storch & Kramer, Berlin, Germany, ca. 1870. This book is comprised of 8 lithograph numbered plates. The plates seem to be in pairs; the first of each set is an outline of a human head against a graph, and the following image is the completed drawing. There are four different faces represented in the 8 plates. These plates are numbered 1-8, but are not signed. The front cover of bright yellow paper features the within a leafy and floral decorative frame which contains 4 lithograph vignettes, one in each of the four sides. The back cover is a publisher's advertisement. The number "34" is written in ms. on the front cover.

One set of art reproductions entitled The Seaside in Art, by Pedro J. Lemos, published by The School Arts Magazine, The Davis Press, Worcester, Massachusetts, 1922. A portfolio of 16 numbered plates of various images of the ocean, ships, fish, shells, etc. comprise the set, which is accompanied by an 8-page introduction by Pedro J. Lemos. Each numbered plate contains a few lines of descriptive or explanatory text below the images. The represented artworks are by various artists. "The Seaside in Art" is printed in the upper left-hand corner of each plate, along with a category in the upper right-hand corner: Plates 1-2 Marine Painting; Plate 3 Outdoor Sketches; Plate 4 Wave Studies; Plate 5 The Sea Coast; Plate 6 Decorative Composition; Plate 7 Sea Scenes; Plate 8 Seaweeds; Plate 9 Shell Fish Designs; Plate 10 Sea Shell Designs; Plate 11 Decorative Fish; Plate 12 Applied Fish Designs; Plate 13 Ship Designs; Plate 14 Ship Designs; Plate 15 Applied Sea Designs; Plate 16 Applied Ship Designs. The plates are housed in an illustrated folder. A blind embossed letter "S" (Mabel Spofford) is stamped at the top of each of the plates.

One set of drawing cards, untitled, ca. 1850. There are 48 drawing cards in this set, each numbered in the upper-right hand corner, 5 to 32, followed by 66, then 68-76. The designs, largely geometric, are progressively more complex as the numbers go higher. Many of the cards have been copied in pencil, next to the original printed design (one per card). They are untitled, and contain no other form of identification. Title supplied by cataloger.

Artist's Scrap Book

One set of art reproductions entitled Artist's Scrap Book, arranged by Pedro J. Lemos, published by The School Arts Magazine, Davis Press, Worcester, Massachusetts, 1929. This portfolio of art reproductions is comprised of 104 numbered plates and an illustrated publisher's advertisement for the portfolio. Each of the plates contain numerous images of artworks by a variety of artists. Each plate is numbered and the images are grouped and labeled by category. Some of the categories included are: Hillside Houses, Decorative Trees, Fantastic Figures, Busy Women, Feminine Activities, Colonial People, Figure Groups, Children of the Eighties, Foreign Lands, Birds, Animals, and Flowers. "Courtesy of the Ladies' Home Journal" is printed in the lower left-hand corner of each plate. The set of plates is housed within an illustrated paperboard folder; a paper label containing the contents list is mounted to the inside of the front cover. "Mabel Spofford" is written in ms., in pencil, on some of the plates.
