One painting book entitled Little People's Pictures Painting Book: Father Tuck's Little Artist Series, published by Kaufmann & Strauss Co., New York, ca. 1910. This 24-page painting book is comprised of lithograph images for painting and tracing and chromolithograph plates as samples. "Father Tuck's Little Artists Series" is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover. The front and back covers are chromolithographs; the image on the front cover is of a boy, seated on the floor, in front of a painting he has created. The image on the back cover is of a child's drum toy. "Instructions for Little Artists" are printed on the inside of the front cover, and more information about color is printed on the inside of the back cover. "12.50" (price) is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper left-hand corner of the inside of the front cover.

Father Tuck's Butterfly Painting Book

One painting book entitled Father Tuck's Butterfly Painting Book, published by Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd., ca. 1910. The front cover features six butterflies against a blue sky; the lower left corner bears the series title "Father Tuck's Little Artists' Series." The back cover features the company's trademark and "No. 3093" in the lower left-hand corner. The book has 12 pages of butterfly and moth images, some in outline, some in color. The pages are perforated to allow easy removal from the book. Many of the outline images have been painted in using watercolor.

Father Tuck's "Fairy Folk" Painting Book

One painting book entitled Father Tuck's "Fairy Folk" Painting Book, Complete with Paints and Brush, published by Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd., of London, ca. 1907. This book is part of Father Tuck's Patent "Paintbox" Series. The front cover shows a leprechaun, or elf, seated and painting. Above the image are the remnants of six watercolors--red, yellow, blue, pink, green and brown--on slips of paper. The front cover and the book's pages are cut away in oval shapes around the watercolors. Illustrations of other painting books in the Father Tuck's Series are shown, which lists this book as No. 2571. Nine color images from various folk tales and children's stories, including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Robinson Crusoe, appear within the book. Blank pages were meant to be used for copying. (The owner has used them for unrelated pencil and watercolor work.) All the illustrations are signed by Mabel Lucie Attwell. A ms. note "$8- 6448, 8 Lucie Mabel Atwell (sic) plates" appears on the front cover. The initials "V.W." appear inside along with the name "Vera W.".

Fun and Frolic Painting Book

One painting book entitled Fun and Frolic Painting Book, published by De Wolfe, Fiske & Co., Boston, ca. 1915. This book is 24 unnumbered pages in length, and is comprised of a combination of 4 chromolithograph illustrations and several lithograph (black and white) illustrations for coloring. The front cover is a chromolithograph of a young girl holding a painting palette, and surrounded by 8 animated, dancing paint tubes. The interior images are scenes from various fairy tales: the Three Little Bears, Miss Muffet, Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Kittens. Some of the lithograph images have been traced in pencil. "Instructions for the Little Artist" are printed on the inside of the front cover.

The New Painting Book for Boys and Girls

One painting book, published by Raphael Tuck & Sons, London, comprised of a single, long sheet of chromolithograph images of children playing and corresponding outline images for coloring. The single sheet is mounted on the inside front cover only, and is accordian-folded to create 8 pages of images. The chromolithograph sample images are along the top row, and the outline images are beneath them, forming the bottom row.

The Little Folks Painting Book

One painting book entitled The Little Folks Painting Book, by Kate Greenaway, published by McLoughlin Bros., New York, ca. 1910. This book is comprised of 15 plates of black and white images of children meant for coloring; many of these have been colored in. Each page contains four labeled images, one in each of the four quadrants of a page. The front cover is a chromolithograph of several children, one of whom is painting at an easel. The back cover is an illustrated publisher's advertisement for "Pantomime Toy Books." The inside of the front cover contains text in three parts: "The Little Folks Painting Book"; "A Few Practical Directions", and "Instructions for Mixing the Colors." The inside of the back cover contains publisher's advertisements.
