    One boxed set of lead pencils entitled 'Venus' Perfect Pencils, manufactured by the American Lead Pencil Co., New York and London, ca. 1910. The box was issued with 5 lead pencils and an eraser; only three pencils remain. On the top lid of the box is an illustrated range of the various degrees of color the pencils are available in: "Made in 17 black and 2 copying degrees: each degree guaranteed never to vary." Printed on the underside of the lid is information about the Venus eraser.

The top lid is covered by green and gold marbled paper. A label on the underside of the box reads: "'The Twins' No. 1980, American Pencil Company, London, New York, Made in U.S.A."

    One pencil tin, manufactured by A.W. Faber-Castell. "A.W. Faber-Castell, Stein bet Nurnberg Germany" is printed below the manufactuer's names on the lid. The lid is illustrated with an image of two jousting knights to the left of the manufacturer's names, which are printed in green and red. The tin is empty. Title supplied by cataloger.

    Two boxed sets of colored pencils manufactured by the Eberhard Faber Pencil Company entitled "Aquarello", Assortment No. 1163 and Mongol Thin Lead Colored Indelible Pencils, Assortment No. 741, ca. 1935. Both sets are wash colors; these are colored pencils that were meant to be gone over with a brush dipped in water. The slogan printed on each of the two interior labels reads "Paint with pencils." Each box is hinged box and has a snap closure. Pencils are missing from both sets. Title supplied by cataloger.

    One boxed set of lead shipping pencils entitled Shipping Pencils, manufactured by Clark Indelible Pencil Co., Northampton, Massachusetts, ca. 1890-1915. The set is comprised of a dozen (2 are missing) pencils, each in a wooden, cylinder-like case bearing a green paper label. Each label reads: "Shipping Pencil. (Clark's pat. Jany. first.) For directing all kinds of merchandise. A substitute for marking brush! Directions: Sponge the place to be marked, with clean water, and write. Manufactured by Clark Indelible Pencil Co., Northampton, Massachusetts." The handle and wood encasing each pencil is made of a darker wood than the slipcase bearing the label. A paper slip is laid into the box, which describes the pencils and their prices.

    One boxed set of colored pencils entitled Eagle Copycolor, manufactured by Eagle, ca. 1935. The set was issued with 12 colored pencils; one is missing from this set. The pencils are housed in a blue and gold hinged box which snaps shut. The top lid opens from bottom to top, and the pencils are placed within a space attached to the top lid. A colorful image of a stained glass window decorates the paper label on the top lid of the box.
