The frame is constructed of four separate pieces that are joined together by black string; the corners have been carved to allow the string to be secure. One glass drawing slate contained within a wooden easel, ca. 1900. Above the slate (also in the easel) is a built-in abacus with blue and black beads. The slate accounts for the lower two-thirds of the front, and the abacus the upper third. Between the slate and the abacus are 6 round wells, perhaps to hold paints. Along the sides of the slate are long, thin, vertical wells for paintbrushes. The easel is painted black and does not bear a manufacturer's name nor a date. The three legs of the easel are hinged at the top of the wooden frame. Accompanying this are 2 sheets of paper, one of which contains outline images for copying. Title supplied by cataloger.
