    Four drawing books entitled Barnes' Popular Drawing Series, published by A.S. Barnes and Company, New York and Chicago, copyright 1881; numbered 5, 5, 6 and 8. There are 2 copies of Set No. 5; one (in Env. 2) is a set of double-sided looseleaf plates in an envelope; Book No. 5 (Env. 3) is a bound duplicate of Envelope 2 (Box 1), except the plates in the bound copy are single-sided. Book No. 5 contains plates no. 33-40; Book No. 6 contains plates no. 41-48; Book No. 8 contains plates no. 57-64. Each bound book is bound in a light green, decorated and illustrated paper cover, and the inside of each back cover contains additional designs, labeled as Place C in Books 5 and 6, and labeled as Plate D in Book 8. The back cover of each book is titled "Barnes' Popular Drawing" and contains descriptions of several drawing courses available through the company. The outer envelope of the unbound No. 5 has "5-" (price) written in ms., in pencil, on the lower right-hand corner.

    One pattern book entitled Design in Dark and Light: Folio No. 2: "Birds", by Rose Netzorg Kerr, published by the Fairbairn Art Company, New York, New York, copyright 1929. This folio consists of 16 numbered and titled plates, within a yellow protective portfolio (which serves as the cover). On one of the flaps of the cover is an explanation of each of the plates in regard to its content and relevant theme. The black and white images are both vertically and horizontally oriented on each plate, and include birds such as sparrows, geese and peacocks. The emphasis of these images is on patterns, motif design and use of space. "Mabel Spofford" is written in ms. at the top of each of the plates.

    One set of plates to accompany The Landon Course of Cartooning, published by C.N. Landon, Cleveland, Ohio, copyright 1914-1919. This set consists of a total of 27 plates that were issued with the cartooning coursebooks. Each lesson is comprised of several plates: Lesson No. 1, "Lines", plates 1-4; "The Head", plates 1-4; "Expression", plates 1-3; "The Hand," plates 1-2; "The Foot", 1 plate; "Comic Figures", plates 1-3; "Action", plates 1-4; "Women", plates 1-4 and "Shading", plates 1-3. Some plates is printed "Copyrighted 1914 [or 1919] by C.N. Landon" in the lower right-hand corner. Also with this set of plates are 11 sheets of drawing paper which contain original artwork, presumably based on the models given in the plates. The plates are in various sizes; the dimensions provided are for the largest of the plates. Alt title supplied by cataloger.

A portfolio of 16 numbered plates of various images of the ocean, ships, fish, shells, etc. comprise the set, which is accompanied by an 8-page introduction by Pedro J. Lemos. Each numbered plate contains a few lines of descriptive or explanatory text below the images. The represented artworks are by various artists. "The Seaside in Art" is printed in the upper left-hand corner of each plate, along with a category in the upper right-hand corner: Plates 1-2 Marine Painting; Plate 3 Outdoor Sketches; Plate 4 Wave Studies; Plate 5 The Sea Coast; Plate 6 Decorative Composition; Plate 7 Sea Scenes; Plate 8 Seaweeds; Plate 9 Shell Fish Designs; Plate 10 Sea Shell Designs; Plate 11 Decorative Fish; Plate 12 Applied Fish Designs; Plate 13 Ship Designs; Plate 14 Ship Designs; Plate 15 Applied Sea Designs; Plate 16 Applied Ship Designs. The plates are housed in an illustrated folder. A blind embossed letter "S" (Mabel Spofford) is stamped at the top of each of the plates.
