El Prado. the starting point of the San Joaquin and Eastern Railroad

    Visual Materials

El Prado (Spanish for "the meadow") aptly described the starting point of the San Joaquin and Eastern Railroad. In this early 1912 view, the Southern Pacific's Friant Branch runs to the left in the foreground, and the S. J. & E. main line curves away in the center. Notice the carpenters building a water tank in the center of the picture, a sure sign that the railroad was still under construction.
