Diaries of Oz Flake [microform] : 1896-1941

Microfilm of the diaries of Oz Flake, kept between 1896 and 1941. The first volume is identified as Book B and was kept while Flake was living in Arizona and Utah from 1896-1899, including at Holbrook, Snowflake, Salt Lake City, Provo, Fillmore, Beaver City, Lee's Ferry, Shumway, Pinetop, and Heber. Portions of the diary (p.105-164) were kept by Flake's wife, Elsie Abigail Owens Flake. The second volume is identified as Record G and was kept following Flake's return from his southern states mission in 1900. It primarily covers his life in Arizona, including Snowflake, Ellison, Fort Apache, and Mesa, from 1900-1913, and also has a brief section kept in 1925. The final, brief volume is identified as Record J, and was kept at Phoenix from 1935-1936. The second reel contains Book K, dated 1936-1938 (the early entries begin in 1917 before skipping to 1936). It was primarily kept at Phoenix, Randolph, and on a trip to California in 1937. Reel 3 begins with Record F, which was kept during Flake's mission to Mississippi and Louisiana from 1899-1900. Book H, dated 1915-1922, was kept at Snowflake and Phoenix as well as during a mission trip to Texas. Book I is dated 1922-1935 and was kept at Phoenix, Snowflake, Salt Lake City, and on a mission trip to North Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama. The final volume is Book L, which was kept at Phoenix, Snowflake, Mesa, and Salt Lake City from 1938-1941.

Microfilm of the diaries of Oz Flake, kept from 1893-1899. The first volume is identified as Record of the Life of O.D. Flake, Snowflake, Book A, and is dated 1893. It opens with a brief autobiography of Flake's life through about 1893, and then transitions into diary entries beginning in about 1894. The diary covers Flake's life in Arizona and an 1896 trip to California. The second volume is identified as Record C and records Flake's 1897-1898 mission to the southern states, particularly Mississippi. The second reel contains a diary dated 1898, which covers the southern states mission in Mississippi as well as stops in Tennessee, New Orleans, and St. Louis. The final volume is identified as Record E and covers Flake's mission in Mississippi from 1898-1899.

Microfilm of the diary of A.H. Hill, begun while he was serving on a mission to England from 1865-1866. The diary records his experiences in England and Scotland, including at Liverpool, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newbury, London, Portsmouth, and Reading. It includes an account of his return voyage to the United States and overland travels to Utah. The second half of the diary covers Hill's daily life in Utah. It closes with various notes he made on his English trip, including a list of people baptized, itineraries, and a list of letters sent.

Microfilm of the diaries of Thomas Judd, covering the years 1876-1878 and 1906-1908. The first two diaries, dated 1876-1877 and 1877-1878, cover Judd's mission to Britain. The 1906 diary covers Judd's activities in La Verkin, his business trips around Washington County, and a trip to Las Vegas and California, including Los Angeles, Pasadena, several beaches, and Santa Catalina Island (where he took a glass bottom boat ride). The 1907 diary describes a second trip to California, including San Francisco, as well as Utah business activities, and the 1908 diary traces Judd's sea voyage from New York to Los Angeles. Portions of the diary are very faint and may be partially illegible.

Microfilm of a diary kept by Robert S. Bliss while he was serving with Company "B" of the Mormon Battalion, United States Army. It traces the Company's travels from Colorado through Sonora, California, to San Diego, and Bliss's return trip as far as Fort Hall, Idaho. The diary details the months the Company spent at the San Luis Rey Mission, and includes observations, both positive and negative, on local Indians and Spaniards. The second microfilm reel contains a typescript of the diary.

Microfilm of two volumes kept by William Fotheringham. The first - kept at Milford, Beaver County, Utah, in 1909 - includes the text of patriarchal blessings given by Fotheringham from 1907-1909, notes on the St. George Temple, and part of Fotheringham's autobiography, including accounts of his leaving Scotland, traveling through Utah, and settling Beaver County. The second volume describes Fotheringham's mission work in India from 1854-1855. It includes references to his time at Manickpatna, Cuttack, Kunderpara, Calcutta, and the Bay of Bengal. The diary concludes with Fotheringham's return voyage to San Francisco by way of Singapore and the China Sea, as well as his travels through San Jose, Union City, Soledad, and Santa Clara.
