    Microfilm of various volumes kept by Joshua Reuben Clark from 1865-1889. The reel includes a book of lot claims (1865); an 1867 diary that records Clark's travels overland to Montana, his impressions of Salt Lake City and the Mormons, his conversion to Mormonism, and living in Utah through 1869; a volume that opens with a list of names and dates of enlistment for soliders at Green Township, St. Joseph County, and is followed by Clark's Civil War diary for 1862; a volume with records of the School District No.1, Grantsville City, dated 1871-1889; and a volume labeled Rochester, Minnesota, 1863, and which includes various lists and reminiscences including "Latin and English Names of Plants and Medicines," "Montana as it Was," recalling Clark's 1866 visit, "History of Daily Occurrences from Sauk Center, Minnesota, to Fort Bridger, Utah Territory" dated 1864, assorted notes, and some family history. The reel also contains a few notes and letters related to Grantsville schools, certificates for mining claims in Montana (1865-1866), a typed family record, an autobiography entitled "History of the Early Life of Joshua Reuben Clark, Sr.", and a teaching license for Clark from the General Board of Education of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1898).

    Microfilm of annotated extracts from the diary and autobiography of William D. Johnson, Jr. Includes a daily record of his accompaniment of the Major Powell Company down the Colorado River in 1872, as well as autobiographical descriptions of his life in Utah, his travels to Mexico in 1885 (at the urging of Erastus Snow, who told Johnson to go "on account of polygamy"), and his appointment as a Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico in 1886.

    The collection consists of correspondence, essays, bibliographical notes, bound volumes, and ephemera either pertaining to or collected by Joseph C. Loughran. The majority of the items relate to Utah history from the 1860s to the 1940s and focus on Weber County, particularly the Ogden area. Items of note include genealogy records for the Fuller, Jacobs-Huntington, Hansen, and Young families; extensive bibliographical records related to Mormon history; a book of poetry and essays by Reba B. Pratt (1880); a book of annotated newspaper clippings by Mormon dissenter Lamoni Call; shopkeeper's day books and account books kept in Ogden from the 1860s-1880s and which feature entries for Lorin Farr, Edwin Smout, George Lake, Seth M. Blair, R.D. Sprague, H.B. Scovill, and others; a wage and account book for Ogden gravedigger Joseph Compton (1880-1883); a record of temple work in Ogden (c.1921-1922); record books of the Primary Association of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11th Ward, Logan Stake, Utah (1931-1934); and a record book from the Ancient Order of United Workmen, Hall Fidelity Lodge No.3 of Ogden (1894-1900).

    Diaries of Ammon M. Tenney [microform] : 1887-1921

    Manuscripts

    Microfilm of eight diary volumes kept by Ammon M. Tenney between 1887 and 1921. The first volume is dated 1887-1890 and recalls Tenney's mission to Mexico. The following seven volumes, identified as Books 1-7, were primarily kept while Tenney was living in Mexico avoiding polygamy charges from 1901-1911. The diaries describes Tenney's daily life primarily around Colonia Juarez, as well as Mormon Church and theological issues and his visits with missionaries and fellow exiles. The final diary was begun while Tenney was living in Thatcher, Arizona, and covers his life in and around Arizona from 1915-1921. The first reel contains the diaries dated 1887-1890, 1901, 1902, and 1904-1905; the second reel contains the diaries dated 1906-1907, 1907-1909, 1909-1911, and 1915-1921.

    Microfilm of 29 letters sent by Lewis Allen to William Atkin between April 24, 1884, and January 30, 1889. The majority of the letters are on letterhead from the President's Office of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City. Allen writes primarily of Mormon leadership and church events ("never been in deeper water in my life in Church Matters than today," he wrote in 1884), local residents, and family issues. Also includes one letter from Wilford Woodruff to Atkin dated April 23, 1888, in which Woodruff replies to Atkin's letter describing a visit from Marshals at St. George and subsequent arrests (frames 39-40).
