Chancery folio, with paper measuring 29 x 20.6 cm. Printed in double columns. Leaf C2r: 47 lines to a full column, plus headline; area of text: 22.7 (23.8) x 15.1 cm.; col. width: 7.2 cm. Printed initials and initial spaces, most with guide letters. With signatures and foliation; without catchwords. Numerous woodcut illustrations, including 6 large illustrations (leaf A1r: a garden in which plants are being harvested and distilled; leaf A2r: a teacher and four students; leaf C1r: a crowned scholar at his reading desk; leaves C4v-C5r: a banner containing a poem; leaf E1r: a kneeling young man offering a book to a king; leaf Z2r: three doctors at a patient's bedside) and many smaller ones of plants, animals and distillation apparatus. Largely based on Heinrich Steinhöwel's treatise on the plague, first printed in Ulm in 1473. Entire passages are copied verbatim. Printed on Chancery-size paper, measuring 28.8 x 20.4 cm. In double columns with 42 lines and headline to a full page; col. width: 6.5 cm.; area of text: 20.6 (21.6) x 13.7 cm. With many ornamental printed initials, some initial spaces with guide-letters, and printed fists in margins; without catchwords. Includes 23 woodcut illustrations (many repeated) of various sizes, which generally depict doctors in consultation with each other and at patients' bedsides. Cf. Schramm. Signatures: A⁴ B-G⁶. Huntington Library copy has "doch vnderwegen liess vnd" in the colophon. Initials and rubrication in red. Binding: stiff vellum.
