Kashnor notes, "Shows California as an island. The Terra Esonis Coast almost touches California, forming the Strait Anian, showing the idea held that America and Asia were joined together, or were only separated by a narrow strait, which latter [sic] was proved true when Behring discovered the Strait nearly sixty years later." Kashnor states, ca. 1688. McLaughlin says 1680, State 3. Cartouche with Indian figures, chief under umbrella.
