There are many interesting notes, and a curious engraving depicting a cannibal feast, the body of the victim being roasted piecemeal on a sort of gridiron. Like all Aa's maps, this is a brilliant example of cartographical engraving." Kashnor dates as [1714]. McLaughlin dates as 1713 and gives publication information. RLIN dates as 1714.     Kashnor notes, "A very curious chart, purporting to represent the entire world, with the North Pole in the center. California appears as an island with 'Terres Inconnues, ou terre de Jesso,' lying across the North Pacific between America and China. South America also appears in a strangely truncated form, with Tierra del Fuego as a lengthy and very narrow island." Kashnor dates as [1714]. Several places in France and around the world are marked with *, noting places whose longitude has been measured using the satellites of Jupiter.     Kashnor notes, "The old plate of Palariet worked up by Vaugondy, with the discoveries of Cook on the North-West, and the fabrications of Del Fonte. It is a curious map, though of some geographical interest in showing how geographers in France still believed in Del Fonte in face of the facts to the contrary shown in Cook's discoveries."     Kashnor notes, "Shows the west coast of North America as far as 45 deg., beyond which 'On n'a pas de connoissances sures des bornes de ce-côte-ci.' In the Southern Pacific are shown the 'Antipodes des principales Villes d'Europe.' Australia is given with a conjectural eastern coast; Tasmania does not appear, but a portion of the western coast of New Zealand is included in the Western Hemisphere. The routes of Anson and Caradonga are marked. An interesting map." Kashnor identifies the maker as [Jean Palariet]. See 105:039M for rework of this map by Robert de Vaugondy in 1783.
