MS note indicates this map was done for the February 1758 edition of "London Magazine." Kitchin incorporates a great many features borrowed from Buache and other fanciful mapmakers, the West Sea, de Fonte's passages, de Gama Land and Bering's Land. He uses Humboldt's compass variation style with some additional speculation. Anson's voyage is traced from Seale's earlier map. "Also a View of the General & Coasting Trade-Winds, Monsoons or Shifting Trade-Winds, & the Variations of the Compass; from the Latest and Best Authorities." Prime meridian: London.
