Route map Stanislaus and Mono National Forests, California Nevada

Description: Verso text suggests early printing date through rules and clothing suggestions. (Burn or bury tin cans and refuse...) OPAC lists this as a gift of the U.S. Forest Service in July 1923. Mono National Forest was divided between Inyo and Toiyabe in 1946 and the name was dissolved. No old shelf mark. Santa Barbara National Forest was merged with other forests, and in 1936 they were renamed Los Padres National Forest. Forest Service instructions on verso indicate an early date for this map. "You may go where you please, pitch camps wherever the fancy strikes you, and stay as long as you like." The verso of all six maps are identical, except for the name and location of the state parks depicted. Estimated dates for this group based on rail roads that appear on the maps, some of which had a limited tenure; the San Joaquin and Eastern Rail Road (on map ephMPCALIF0184) was constructed in 1912 (Fickewirth, page 131), and the Boca Loyalton Rail Road (on map ephMPCALIF0187) was abandoned in 1916 (Fickewirth, page 17).
