Agriculture and shipping industry photographs
Visual Materials
A series of 105 black-and-white photographs taken by Hi Worth Pictures of Altadena, California, in the late 1940s and early 1950s depicting work in various agricultural, transport, and shipping industries presumably in Southern California. The agricultural images include views of men and women working in fields and orchards, harvesting, irrigating, and spraying pesticides, and in packing houses at assembly lines picking over fruit, canning, crating, and working with machinery. The types of produce chiefly depicted include berry, grape, citrus, carrot, apricot, and date. Among the images there are views of the interior of a supermarket and the process of harvesting dates from palm trees. There are also scenes of shipping and transport of cargo on trucks, ships, and train boxcars, with scenes from the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles.
