    Roy Knabenshue scrapbook

    Visual Materials

    A scrapbook with photographs and newspaper clippings relating to the dirigible flights of Roy Knabenshue in Pasadena, California, in October 1913. There are numerous photographs of the dirigible frame; the envelope (or balloon); the dirigible on the ground and in the air; people watching and moving the aircraft; pilot Walter Brookins; and aerial views of Pasadena taken from the dirigible. There are also three photographs of a spherical balloon called the "Fairy." Newspaper clippings describe the first flights of the first passenger dirigible in the United States, with one including speculation by Knabenshue on the cause of the Johannisthal air disaster in Germany on October 17, 1913.
