Kern River #1 - Leslie B. Hicks after his rescue. [Just before Xmas of 1906, miner Lindsey B. Hicks was trapped by the collapse of a tunnel being dug to carry water to Edison's Kern River #1 Hydro Plant. Edison workers drove a new tunnel 100 feet through the mountainside and recued him alive after 16 days of entombment. Here he stands behind newspapers announcing his rescue. (wam)]
