Her clothing appears light colored and a matching cap covering her head worn low near to her eyes. She is exiting the stream in the portrait with trees and a mountain behind her. Fencing runs across the waterway indicating a property boundary. An annotation in ink along the border of the photograph titled and dated the image, "An old Indian Squaw, Montana, Aug. 1917." On the verso written in pencil, "Hardy 1945."
