Description: The collection consists of manuscripts (by and about Lawrence), correspondence (including over 150 letters by Lawrence), photographs, drawings, reproductions and ephemera. Also included in the collection is research material of various Lawrence collectors and scholars. Correspondents represented in the collection include: Tom W. Manuscripts

This is an ephemera collection consisting of 111 pieces relating to T.E. Lawrence; included are newspaper and magazine articles, clippings, book reviews, obituaries, photographs and postcards dating from 1926-2017. The collection also includes photocopies of Lawrence's birth certificate and will. The majority of the material was collected from British sources and includes material written by well-known Lawrence scholars, including Malcolm Brown, David Garnett, Robert Graves, Sir Basil Liddell Hart, and Jeremy Wilson. The photographs were taken by Peter Danby-Smith at the T.E. Lawrence Society Symposium (September 1998) and include Lawrence collector Edwards Huntington Metcalf. The material is in good condition and is housed in a three-ring binder/box.

Lawrence Clark Powell papers

Manuscripts

The majority of the collection consists of correspondence between Lawrence Clark Powell and historian Andrew Rolle (1943-1990 - 7 folders). In the correspondence they often discuss their current book projects, articles, etc. They also discuss other historians and authors (John Caughey, Robert Glass Cleland, etc.), as well as Occidental College, the Huntington Library, the Zamorano Club, and UCLA. Along with the correspondence are several typewritten copies of manuscripts by Powell (book reviews, etc.). There is also one postcard from Benjamin De Casseres to Andrew Rolle (1943).

Olin C. Wilson Papers

Manuscripts

The collection deals primarily with the professional activities of Olin Wilson, who was most active from the mid-1930s into the 1980s. It is organized alphabetically by author, and divided into two series: Series I, consisting of correspondence, primarily with other astronomers, which comprises the bulk of the collection (Boxes 1-32), and Series II, consisting of reports, which include a total of 39 items (Boxes 33-34). The finding aid contains a heading for "Primary Reference," which refers to the principal author of the letter or report. The heading "Secondary Reference" serves as a general category of subject headings for items referenced in the letter, such as the organization to which the author belonged, the country of origin of the letter, etc. Wilson corresponded frequently with astronomers from a variety of universities in the United States and abroad, and the collection is representative of the deeply international and collaborative nature of astronomical and astrophysical research in the second half of the twentieth century. It also contains valuable and insightful material related to the schism between Mount Wilson and CalTech in the 1970s and 1980s, and the near-demise of Mount Wilson during that decade. The collection includes correspondence with such prominent astronomers as Walter Sydney Adams, Bernard William Bopp, Ira Sprague Bowen, David A. Thackery, Lawrence H. Aller, Robert Paul Kraft, and many other individuals, as well as considerable correspondence with the American Astronomical Society, the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, the Carnegie Institution of Washington, and other organizations.

Neeta Marquis papers

The collection is chiefly comprised of personal and business correspondence of author Neeta Marquis; there is also correspondence between her parents while her father was in the Union Army during the American Civil War as well as his early letters from California. There are also photographs, ephemera, newspaper clippings, printed items related to literary societies, poems, manuscripts, notes, and scrapbooks and datebooks belonging to Neeta Marquis. The majority of the collection documents Neeta Marquis' literary career, but other subjects that can be found are the American Civil War; Lincoln's assassination; gold miners in California and early California history and American western-themed stories by Marquis and other authors.
