These manuscripts constituted the archives of the Spanish and Mexican governors of California and were kept at the Carmel Mission before they were acquired by Alexander S. Taylor.

Provenance
Photostatic copies were made from originals loaned by the Archdiocese of San Francisco (Calif.), 1952. The original manuscript collection was acquired by Alexander S. Taylor and in 1933 it was presented to the Archbishop of San Francisco (Calif.).
