Detailed info on this being done from Nogales to Mazatlán, including copies of the actual agreement, correspondence, etc. The Ericsson Telephone Co. was the company involved, despite the title of this item on cover. "Extension of Line From Mazatlán Station to Port of Mazatlán." File SPM 300-42, Part 1. From Apparently SPM had a concession in 1908 to build tiny stub line of 3.5 km from main line into Mazatlán, but as of 1933, the line hadn't been completed (only 2 km had been built and were in use). Inquiries were made about why not by Shoup, and Sloan answered that "undoubtedly the concession has lapsed, but it has not been forfeited on account of the fact that no notification of forfeiture has been given by the Department of Communications, the situation being fully understood in that Department. It is manifestly impossible to complete the balance of the line to the port of Mazatlán, on account of the fact that the location of the port has not been determined, there having been presented several projects involving different locations, none of which has been definitely accepted. While the Government is very anxious to complete the port works, I am advised that no construction will be carried on this year on account of lack of funds." (Sloan to Shoup, April 17, 1933). Need to see a history of Mazatlán to read more about development of that community. --Includes detailed bluelines of proposed terminal facilities at Mazatlán
