The collection consists of 809 portrait photographs in a variety of formats. It is a reference collection of individual and group portraits and contains portraits of both prominent and lesser-known Los Angelenos and Southern Californians from both the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection contains images created by a number of well-known California photographers.

The collection consists of the personal papers and correspondence of Margaret Collier Graham, as well as materials related to her husband, Donald McIntyre Graham, and other related family papers. Much of the subject matter in the collection focuses on life in California (chiefly in early Pasadena and Anaheim) and California real estate and development, including the establishment of Elsinore and Wildomar.

This collection includes 136 items that span 1849 to 1890, but the bulk of the documents relate to the 1850s and 1860s. The material includes the following kinds of documents: depositions, powers of attorney, wills, petitions, notices, agreements, leases, indentures and plats. The documents chiefly deal with the estates and land deals of several citizens of California; some of those significant individuals included in the collection are: Ygnacio Alviso, Anastacio Chavoya, Pablo de la Guerra, Jose Dolores Pacheco, Juan Sepulveda, and Robert Stockton. The collection also includes two maps and one song of San Jose, California.

Manuscript map showing Yucatán, Belize, Guatamala, Honduras and the Mosquito Coast, El Salvador and the northern part of Nicaragua to Lake Nicaragua. Colored. The library also has a printed version of this map, call number 105:895 M., which includes all of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

Taber and Holmes family papers

This small collection consists of 15 letters, one deed and 29 pieces of ephemera all related to the Taber and Holmes families. The letters were written from Meriden, New Hampshire; Middletown and Reisterstown, Maryland; Mummasburg, Pennsylvania; Gardiner, Maine; and Springfield, Kingston, and Boston, Massachusetts. Seven of the letters were written by Alfred Taber to his family members while he was away at school and traveling. Subjects include: the Civil War, Kimball Union Academy, Boston, and land in Maine.

The collection contains letters, documents, including 190,000 reports, 1200 maps, 500 photographs, and 8200 pieces of printed material related to the life and career of Ralph Arnold. Subjects represented in the collection include: mining, petroleum, and seismology in the Western United States as well as Canada, Mexico, Cuba, and South America; political papers from 1914 to 1956, mostly concerning the campaign of Herbert Hoover for president; family and personal papers from 1836 to 1961 of Arnold and his father, Delos Arnold, containing source material on Pasadena and Southern California local history. The collection also contains Arnold's field books, including those made at Stanford University with the U.S. Geological Survey from 1900 to 1909.
