    The collection consists of letters, documents, seven sketches, maps, and one manuscript related to the life and business activities of Jasper O'Farrell. The collection's subject matter and contents include rough surveys and sketches of California ranchos and towns, from 1845 to 1850, receipts, bills, etc., 1850 to 1870, and deeds, leases, and other papers pertaining to O'Farrell's land in Sonoma County, 1855 to 1870. There are also letters to O'Farrell about various business, personal and political topics, from 1846 to 1874, and personal letters from O'Farrell to his daughter, Elena, 1871 to 1875. The collection also contains notes and excerpts from printed accounts of O'Farrell's life and copies of letters dealing with the San Francisco survey, from 1924 and after.

    William Hayes Hilton sketches

    Manuscripts

    Nine sketchbooks containing sketches done by William Hayes Hilton during his travel around California, Arizona, Nevada, and Mexico from 1850-1870. The most common subjects of his drawings are gold miners in California; San Francisco and Monterey, California; and Tepic and Mazatlan, Mexico. His sketches include people, churches, and landscapes, and in several of them he drew the indigenous people of California and Mexico as well as Chinese people in California. Several of the sketchbooks have loose sketches and are in fragile condition.

    Jasper Parish collection

    Manuscripts

    A collection of 34 items from 1804 to 1828; it consists primarily of correspondence, invoices, and receipts documenting business transactions made between Jasper Parish and U.S. government officials on behalf of the Seneca Nation. The Oneida, Cayuga, and Tuscarora nations are also represented among these papers, as well as the Stockbridge Native Americans. Items include: a power of attorney authorizing Jasper Parish as agent and attorney for the Seneca Nation, notifications and accounts of council meetings, treaty negotiations and contracts for lands purchased, and receipts for annuity payments made to the Six Nations by the U.S. government.

    San Luis Rey restoration work

    This collection includes photos of eleven California missions and their grounds during a restoration period from the late 1940s to the mid-1950s. Notable missions that are depicted include San Fernando Rey de España, San Luis Rey de Francia, Santa Barbara, and Santa Inés. Photographs were taken by Jasper Schad and Brother Barnabas of Mission San Luis Rey.
