    This collection of American Civil War related photographs and ephemera provides an insight into the biography of Edwin M. Stanton and the research of the Civil War in the late 1920s to early 1950s. The collection includes a copy of Florence Gratiot Bale's "General Grant's Galena Home" (Waukegan, Illinois, 1929); 12 black-and-white photographs (1950) from the series "Service Cameramen Visit Civil War Shrines" issued by the United States Department of Defense; 14 black-and-white photographs by Wilbur G. Kurtz of the Atlanta campaign; 2 black-and-white photographs (1929) of the site of Jefferson Davis's capture; and 17 black-and-white photographs of Edwin M. Stanton's house in Cadiz, Ohio. Also includes a photostat copy of George B. Todd's letter, which contains an important first-hand account of Abraham Lincoln's assassination and unbound binder leaves with 35 black-and-white photographs (1933 to 1935) of the sites of the Lincoln assassination and the trial of conspirators, taken by L. C. Handy and Casson studios.

    The Southern California Edison Records consist of materials created, maintained, and collected by the company. The Southern California Edison Records contain books, catalogs, correspondence, journals, ledgers, log books, meeting minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, photographs, press releases, reports, scrapbooks, and other materials documenting the history of the Southern California Edison (SCE) Company. The records cover the years 1848 to 1989 with the bulk of the material ranging from 1911 to 1965. The material is largely textual with the exception of a few non-paper items scattered throughout.

    A collection of 546 items containing chiefly letters written by prominent military figures during the American Civil War (1781-1915, bulk 1861-1865); also included are some documents, a diary, manuscript maps, and battle plans. The collection focus is upon the land forces with a few pieces related to the Union navy. Significant persons represented in the collection, among others: Pierre G. T. Beauregard, Benjamin F. Butler, Jefferson Davis, David G. Farragut, Ulysses S. Grant, Henry W. Halleck, Edward Hatch, Joseph E. Johnston, Robert E. Lee, Francis W. Pickens, Philip H. Sheridan, William T. Sherman, and George H. Thomas.Material created by U.S. presidents in this collection include: James Buchanan autograph note, 1861 February 28, added to Winfield Scott letter to Joseph Holt, 1861 February 26 (CW 388); James A. Garfield, Chattanooga, autograph letter signed to "Brother Evrett," Detroit, 1863 October 5 (CW 133); Andrew Johnson, Washington, D.C., autograph letter signed to Edwin M. Stanton, 1867 February 11 (CW 215). Also present are the following Ulysses S.
