    Alexander and Brooklyn Mines Records

    This collection comes from the files of Harvey Seeley Mudd and is divided into three separate sections. The first consists of correspondence dealing with the history of the Alexander and Brooklyn Mines from 1921 to 1944 and covers the following subjects: leasing of the property, difficulties in mining the sulphide ore, status reports on the mines from L. W. (L. Webster) Wickes, the strained partnership of the Mudds with William J. Webster, and the unwatering of the Mitchell mining shaft to explore for ore. The next section contains correspondence that deals with the purchase of the Alexander and Brooklyn Mines by the Coronado Copper and Zinc Company and the last section consists of assays and smelter returns from the Alexander and Brooklyn Mines.

    The collection consists of letters, documents, and bound volumes documenting the legal and business affairs of the Savage Mining Company and the Hale and Norcross Mining Company. It includes receipts and disbursements, payrolls, bank books, time books, stockholders' statements and accounts, reports on ore extracted, and assays, vouchers, etc. The collection also includes letters to mining superintendents, a few pertaining to the mining town of Bodie, California, and some material concerning operations of the U.S. Mint in Carson City, Nevada, from 1888 to 1889.
