Letter book of private correspondence
Manuscripts
This letter book contains copies of correspondence between Updike and various individuals, presumably bound separately for confidentiality purposes. Much of the correspondence relates to Updike's involvement in various plans to develop a press for Harvard University, or sell or accept loans for the Merrymount Press and includes letters to James Loeb, C.E. Norton, and Eliot Norton, and others. There is also some miscellaneous correspondence related to the estate of Updike's grandmother and property in Worcester, Massachusetts, and additional letters to recipients including Madame Fauchery (of E. Fournier & Company), Edward P. "Ned" Warren (Lewes, Sussex, England), a few letters to Jane Addams (Hull House, Chicago).
