There is also material about the Sutter New Helvetia title and a trip to the Fraser River mines in Canada; correspondents include Alfred Bult Mullett and Aaron Augustus Sargent.

Samuel Ten Eyck letter to Origin B. Throop

Manuscripts

In this letter, Samuel Ten Eyck writes to his friend, Origin B. Throop, back home in Schoharie, New York, offering a description of the Mexican port city of Guaymas, Sonora, giving his assessment of Mexican attitudes towards Americans, and describing his experiences in the Fraser River Gold Rush.

A collection of approximately 2,600 items from 1833 to 1901, which consists of letters, documents, and manuscripts; the collection also includes 117 volumes of journals of daily occurrences, letter books, accounts, and records related to the activities of the Hudson's Bay Company and the Puget Sound Agricultural Company at Fort Nisqually. Subject matter in the collection includes: fur trade with Native Americans; life in the various forts and posts (particularly Fort Vancouver and Fort Victoria); the early history of Fort Steilacoom; settlement and history of the Pacific Northwest; and shipping on the Pacific coast and in Puget Sound. Significant persons represented in the collection include Edward Huggins, John McLoughlin, Peter Skene Ogden, and William Fraser Tolmie.

The collection consists of the material collected by Gary B. Cowles during his research on the original Busch Gardens in Pasadena, California. The collection is chiefly made up of 28 binders of research material that include newspaper clippings, copies of newspaper clippings, photographs, postcards, etc., all related to Busch Gardens, the Busch family and their Pasadena neighbors, Anheuser-Busch Company, and Pasadena history, as well as the gardener Robert Gordon Fraser. Also included: research notes, ephemera, tourism material, monographs, compact discs, slides, glass plate negatives, drawings, watercolors, and maps. Cataloger noted Cowles' orginal item numbers and all of Cowles' original notes were kept and help with photograph identification.
