Seven typescript letters signed and one autograph letter signed (1916 November 13); some typescripts have autograph edits. Letters are addressed to Walter W. Strong, mostly in Chicago, who is referred to in one as Chairman, Progressive County Central Committee of Du Page County (Illinois). The letters concern Progressive Party politics and the 1912 platform, Roosevelt's opinions on being an American and on William Jennings Bryan, who he refers to as "a good-hearted man of precisely the temperament best fitted to make a success as 'barker' for patent medicine" (1916 December 15). Some are written on letterhead for The Outlook magazine or Metropolitan magazine; most letters have addressed envelopes. Dates of letters: 1911 May 11, 1912 November 22, 1913 January 30, 1915 December 31, 1916 April 15, 1916 November 13, 1916 December 15, 1917 January 26.

4 items. Three transcripts dated in March 1961, are from KCOP-TV broadcasts by Cal Tinney and Tom Duggan. Tinney praised LAT series on the John Birch Society, Duggan was critical of the same series. One more KCOP-TV transcript of June 1961, has Duggan again criticizing LAT on the subject of the United Nations.

Approx. 30 items. Subjects include: internal memos discussing Yorty and his relationship with LAT; discussion of Yorty's affinity for news anchor George Putnam; colorful marginal notes about Yorty by Otis C. and others; 1963 invitation for W. to attend Yorty birthday party at Hollywood Palladium and W.'s regrets; Yorty claims that LAT material was "purposely one-sided," etc. Otis C. wrote marginal notes critical of Yorty. In red pencil he wrote on an August 1963 Mayoral letter --"A real kook with impossible emotions," and "[Yorty is] always looking for someone to give him sympathy."

Five copies of a speech entitled "Have I Ever Lied To You? (With Apologies To Art Buchwald)" given by Otis Chandler to the Western States Advertising Agencies Association on April 5, 1968. Two of the copies are reprints from California Publisher. Also in this folder is an introduction by Vance Stickell; eight congratulatory letters, two of them have responses from Otis Chandler; two letters from Robert E. Brandson, President of the Western States Advertising Agencies Association, one thanks Otis Chandler for his time and provides details about the reception, and the other is notifying Otis Chandler that he has been chosen as their Man of the Year; a letter to Freddie Miller from Ruth Oreck, Executive Secretary at Western States Advertising Agencies Association, providing information about the head table; two different copies of Westword, the official publication of the Western States Advertising Agencies Association; an invitation for the 1967 awards luncheon; an invitation for the awards ceremony honoring Otis Chandler, along with a memo from John Gall to Van Stickell listing 14 names and it also has handwritten notes. nine newspaper and magazine clippings regarding the award; three Western Union congratulatory telegrams; and a phone message taken by Freddie Miller.
