Free Press and Herald-Examiner, etc. Specific subjects include: LAT hesitates to endorse Tom Bradley in mayoral race of 1969, instead endorsing Alfonzo Bell as the most likely to unseat Yorty; Yorty's office newsletter (3/13/1969) reports on Yorty's speech to the Westwood Young Republicans; Yorty newsletter predicting mass police resignations should Bradley win election; George Putnam newscast highly critical of Otis Chandler and LAT; much more material relating to Yorty-LAT feud; etc.

Eight items of correspondence in this folder. Two letters of correspondence between William F. Thomas [Bill Thomas] and Sam Yorty. A blind copy was sent to Otis Chandler. Yorty complains about not getting coverage on his television show and the fact that Otis Chandler stated that he missed him when Chandler saw him at a dinner. A letter, with an attachment, to Otis Chandler from Sam Yorty. A telegram to Otis Chandler from Sam Yorty. A press release two page press release from Sam Yorty's office with an attachment of his editorial cartoon about Chandler. A transcript of a commentary by Bill Bonds on KABC-TV. A transcript of the program Eleventh Hour News on KNBC-TV. A memo from Otis Chandler to Norman Chandler regarding a letter Yorty sent to Norman Chandler. The letter is attached along with a a two page photocopy of an article.

Letters, press clippings, Yorty newsletters, etc. Subjects include: discussion of a new charter for L.A.; 1970 "Yorty for Governor" press release; issues related to Indochina war; LAT gives very strong editorial endorsement to Tom Bradley for mayor, stating that Yorty's 8-yr. record as mayor was one of "bickering and weak leadership, racial divisiveness and clowning absenteeism on world-wide junkets" and more; etc.

Yorty, Sam - 1961, 1963-1965

Approx. 30 items. Subjects include: internal memos discussing Yorty and his relationship with LAT; discussion of Yorty's affinity for news anchor George Putnam; colorful marginal notes about Yorty by Otis C. and others; 1963 invitation for W. to attend Yorty birthday party at Hollywood Palladium and W.'s regrets; Yorty claims that LAT material was "purposely one-sided," etc. Otis C. wrote marginal notes critical of Yorty. In red pencil he wrote on an August 1963 Mayoral letter --"A real kook with impossible emotions," and "[Yorty is] always looking for someone to give him sympathy."
