    A copy of Otis Chandler's speech given at the Editorial Awards Dinner on January 30, 1963. Also included are newspaper clippings about the event; a thank you note from a attendee; a head table seating chart; a letter from Edward J. Reap to Ralph W. Harrison [Biltmore Hotel Banquet Manager] confirming the banquet details; a letter sent by Ralph W. Harrison to Edward J. Reap confirming the banquet and its menu, attached to this letter is a memo from Edward J. Reap to Nick Williams; a letter from Nick William's to Edward J. Reap regarding the banquet program schedule; a draft of a letter addressed to "Tom" from Otis Chandler and Nick William's informing "Tom" about the creation of the annual Los Angeles Times Editorial Awards; and two copies of the outline for the awards dinner.

    Reiss-Davis Recognition Awards Dinner

    Three copies of a speech given by Otis Chandler at the Reiss-Davis Recognition Awards Dinner, hosted by the Reiss-Davis Child Guidance Clinic, on March 26, 1969. Also in this folder are two invitations to the event; a newspaper clipping dated 03/17/07 announcing the award; a memo from Dan Moore regarding a list of table guest; a letter from Miss Trude Feldman, on Sands of Los Angeles letterhead, along with an attached article from the Bnai Brith Messenger, also attached is a memo from Freddie Miller to Otis Chandler; two letters and a telegram sending their regrets in not being able to attend the dinner; a thank you letter from R. Stan Avery regarding the copies that were sent to him, attached to this letter is a memo from Freddie Miller to Otis Chandler; four congratulatory letters; thirty congratulatory letters and corresponding responses; a copy of a letter to Jackson Long, Regional Vice President of Sales and Service at United Air Lines, from Otis Chandler's Administrative Aide, in which several copies of the speech are being sent as requested; two thank you letters from Reiss-Davis Child Study Center, one having an attached response letter from Otis Chandler; a two page letter from Leonard S. Janofsky, of the Law Offices of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky, & Walker, to inform Chandler how impressed he was with the speech; and three letters responding to three letters received by Otis Chandler, in which he is informed that the Reiss-Davis Child Guidance Clinic is asking his friend to become sponsors. In the response letters, Chandler apologizes and informs his friends that he is not pleased with the way that this dinner is developing.

    William Allen White Foundation Annual Award Luncheon

    Three copies of a speech entitled "Newspapering As America Enters Its Third Century" given by Otis Chandler at the William Allen White Foundation Annual Award Luncheon held at the University of Kansas on April 30, 1975. Other items in this folder include nine pages of photocopied biographical information on William Allen White; several newspaper clippings about the award; a note from Freddie Miller regarding the dissemination of the speech to "our top people", two letters from Dolph C. Simons, Jr., President and Publisher of The Lawrence Daily Journal-World, one stating how nice it was to see them and the other about his upcoming trip to Los Angeles; a thank you letter from John Cowles, Jr., Chairman of the Minneapolis Star and Tribune Company; twenty-nine congratulatory letters; three thank you letters sent out by Otis Chandler; sixteen items of correspondence which included congratulatory letters and Otis Chandler's response attached to them; a memo from Clark Akers to Frank Flood, with an attached response letter from Otis Chandler; a letter from Archie R. Dykes, Chancellor at The University of Kansas, confirming the visit and a response letter from Otis Chandler; four different speech reprint booklets from prior award winners.

    San Marino City Club Dinner

    Two copies of the speech that was suppose to be given by Otis Chandler at the San Marino City Club on Tuesday, January 17, 1978. There is a note from Freddie Miller on one of the copies stating that Chandler decided to speak "off the cuff" instead. Other items in this folder include a thank you letter from John M. Podlech, a Pasadena Attorney, which he also sends a three page photocopy of a Reader's Digest article; a letter from Lynn P. Reitnouer, President-Elect of the San Marino City Club, providing information about the event; two letters of correspondence between Jack D. Whitehead of Beatrice Food Co. and Otis Chandler in which Whitehead discusses the speech's message, and Chandler responds with a thank you letter; a newspaper clipping from the San Marino Tribune.
