Pete Werner and wife Helen (described as a "political queen of the 1920s" in L.A.), transcripts of hearings, other information. Notable items: LAT obit copy, 5/11/1947, "Helen Werner, political 'queen' of 20s, dies" ; 25-pp. transcript (on onionskin paper), from Dist. Court of Appeal of State of California, 2nd Appellate Dist., Div. Two, "Edwin P. Werner, Plaintiff and Appellant, vs. Southern California Associated Newspapers...Defendant and Respondent," filed 6/2/1949.

An LAT story, 3/30/1973, gives the details of his apparent suicide - "Former Dist. Atty. Buron Fitts found shot to death at home" in Three Rivers, CA. Also an 8/8/1930 letter from Fitts to the "Fitts-for-Governor" Headquarters, reading in part, "I do not want to end this campaign heavily in debt...I am not financially able to assume the burden."
