    Grace Burke Hubble correspondence

    Manuscripts

This small collection consists primarily of letters from Grace Burke Hubble to Ida Crotty. Grace writes about her travels throughout Europe, Edwin Powell Hubble's lectures, social life and daily activities such as fishing. There are quite a few letters where Grace writes from Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Maryland, in the 1940s. In 1944, she describes obtaining a clearance from the Rocket Laboratory to ships firing anti-aircraft guns. There is a letter dated August 4, 1949, after Hubble's heart attack in Colorado, where Grace thanks Ida for sending him French editions of Vogue, which he enjoys very much while recuperating. The folder of miscellaneous items contains The Foothill Guide of the California Institute for Cancer Research membership list, notes, invoices, and a Report of the Library Committee.
