    14 letters that Burr wrote to John Vanderlyn, an American neoclassical artist and Burr's protegé, between Aug. 7 and Sept. 22 from Amsterdam. The letters discuss various commissions and unfinished business that Burr had asked Vanderlyn to attend to, including two portraits of his daughter Theodosia.

    Aaron H. Hyde letters to John Hyde

    In these letters to his father, Aaron Hyde writes of the difficult time he has been having in California. In HM 16597, dated 1851, January 26, he writes that the miners are "disappointed" and that business in San Francisco is "dull." He laments that "California is a very bad place to make and carry out plans." In HM 16598. Aaron reports that he has come into business with a Mr. Cilley, who will be delivering the letter by hand when he returns to New Hampshire to gather his family for relocation to California. Aaron says he will come home himself in a year or two if the business does not work out.

    Pocket notebooks containing memoranda and journal entries that Earl of Loudoun kept after he was appointed to America, during his service in the colonies, and the wake of his recall to London in March 1758. The entries record Loudoun's interactions with British and colonial authorities, including his patron Duke of Cumberland; letters sent and received; his orders, directives, and instructions as well as note various private meetings, diversions, etc.

    Farmer's journal

    The journal and account book that Foote kept from 1841 through 1873. He started the journal in 1841, "the first year of my agricultural life, for the purpose of recording, in general, my labors and their results." The journal details works and activities of Foote's farm, including his agricultural "experiments," and contains records weather and natural disasters. The account book, in addition to household and farm expenses, contains records of payments to Williams College, purchases of books, subscriptions to local and national magazines and newspapers, expenses related to the activities of Berkshire agricultural societies, etc.
