Arthur Burtis Critchlow's reminiscences of his time at the Uintah Valley Indian Agency, the interactions of Ute Indians in Colorado, and the cattle industry. Includes references to the Meeker Massacre of 1879 (which refers to the death of Indian Agent N.C. Meeker and his men during fighting between Uintah Utes and White River Utes), the subsequent relocation of the White River Utes to the Uintah Reservation, the Uncompohgre Indians, the "White Outbreak," and cattle herding and sales. Typed and with commentary probably by James W. Sheridan. Also includes a letter about the typescript sent from Homer C. Crotty to Leslie Bliss in 1942.

John S. Southworth diary of Colorado River trip

The first volume (HM 74297) is Southworth's diary that he kept while on the river trip. The diary begins in Green River, Wyoming on June 20th and ends near Boulder City, Nevada on August 22. Southworth talks about the trip: the conditions along the river; the weather; the scenery passed; the people, ranches and animals along the route; and injuries among the group. There are also two newspaper clippings in the diary. The photograph album (HM 74298) contains over 400 black and white photographs taken on the river trip. There are several photographs of Monument Valley and two photographs of Native Americans. The photograph album also contains a newspaper clipping about Southworth and the trip.

Reminiscences of a gold miner

Fisk starts his reminiscences in 1850 when he left Illinois for California. He describes his overland journey in a party of 20 wagons. He mentions the Native Americans they passed (specifically the Utes and Otos), Fort Laramie, and how the group had to leave items behind to speed their pace. He also talks about Salt Lake City, buffalo herds, and the group's constant search for water. Fisk then describes arriving in Hangtown (Placerville), his experience mining on the American River and leaving California to mine in Colorado. He writes briefly about his time with the 2nd Iowa Regiment. He also discusses his decision to travel to Alaska to try his hand at gold mining one more time. Following the reminiscences are typescripts of several letters from Fisk to his sister written while on his journey to Alaska.

Chamberlain's reminiscences covers his voyage to California onboard the ship Capitol and his first year of living in California. He talks in detail about life in San Jose, Stockton, and various mining camps, gold mining, looking for work, doing carpentry for $12 a day, witnessing a hanging near Stockton, and John Amos Chaffee.

Experiences and reminiscences of Raymond William Milnor

In this manuscript, Milnor reminiscences about his life. He talks about his childhood in Iowa where he played around railroad tracks and attended a school with a graduating class of 14 students. He talks about his work with the railroads and trips he took. He talks briefly about his time in the war and time spent at Yellowstone Park on his journey to California. Milnor ends his reminiscences with several pages covering his life in southern California - his varying jobs, the many times his family moved around, his daughters' education, family vacations, his retirement, etc.
