Letter from Benjamin J. Edson in Genoa, Nevada, to Josiah (probably his brother Josiah Edson) regarding mining claims in Nevada. Edson writes of a letter he sent to Robert Moir, and of Josiah asks that "I would like to hear from you...as to prospects, even although a longer delay might be necessary to perfect any project that might be thought of."

Robert Freeman letter to Henry E. Huntington

In this letter on Pasadena Presbyterian Church letterhead, Rev. Freeman discusses a building plan for the proposed educational building for the Pasadena Presbyterian Church at the cost of $150,000. He mentions that Mrs. Howard Huntington suggested that he might be interested in the building project that is waiting for the final bid from the contractor. He goes on to describe the pledge drive, the wide interest the project has enjoyed and the main purpose of providing a wholesome religious environment for the youth. He explains that there are between 1100 and 1200 youth in attendance every Sunday and additional opportunities for weekday activities. Rev. Freeman writes that if Mr. Huntington needed further details that he would be happy to oblige and that he is still in hopes of getting to see the library as he had a prior appointment that was interrupted by the war.

John Augustus Sutter letter to Charles Covilland

Sutter hopes that Covilland might have for sale a lot of land in Marysville, so that Sutter's son may live there and build a house on it. In return, Sutter has some separate land that he would be willing to trade.

Richard H. Kern letter to Augustus Murray Cathcart

Kern writes that his men have just returned from an expedition "against the Navajoes." He will send Cathcart drawings later in the fall. He requests an extract of Cathcart's journal, and mentions letters of John C. Frémont. Kern would have returned earlier, but he was investigating the murder of one of his men. With cross-hatched note signed "Frémont."

Joseph C. Sasia letter to Olive Percival

In this letter, Fr. Sasia regrets that he was unable to secure any reliable information on the sundial at the San Juan Bautista Mission, but if she would write the present rector of the mission, he might be able to furnish some information. He gives the name and address of the rector and promises to keep her letter on file and contact her should he find any information on the sundial.

George C. (George Congdon) Gorham letter to William Worth Belknap

Letter sent by George C. Gorham to William Worth Belknap from San Francisco. Gorham writes of a "personal and...very small but very important matter." He writes that "a hundred votes ones way or another" may decide a 3rd District Congressional race between "an ardent Grant Republican and an original secessionist." He asks Belknap to telegraph the "Engineer officer in charge here" and ask him to appoint John Gannon as foreman of laborers on the Lime Point fortification in the San Francisco harbor. Gorham adds that Gannon only wants the position for a short time, and "does not want to retain it after the election." Gorham implores Belknap that such a telegraph would "ensure a Congressman."
