This group consists of four distinct items: two notebooks, containing Friese's anecdotal reminiscences of hunting, camping, and other adventures in California from 1900 to 1970 (as well as several hunting records and newspaper clippings); a photocopy of a four-page manuscript by Friese entitled "My Acquaintance With the Chinese in the Early Days," which records Friese's recollections of the Chinese in Los Angeles during his boyhood and adolescence; and a photocopy of a letter (to the reporter Earl Gustkey) and poem by Les Jacobs, dedicated to Friese after the publication of the L.A. Times profile. The notebooks, which are bound, measure 18 cm by 11 cm and 20 cm by 13 cm, respectively, and include 97 and 79 pages of writing.

Anonymous physics manuscript. Text is written in bold cursive style present on gutter half of each page. Numerous diagrams and illustrations have been drawn opposite text pertinent to discussion of physical phenomenon. This is a meticulously written and illustrated Italian manuscript covering many aspects of pressure, force and mechanics. The margins contain various geometric and surveying diagrams along with scales, hoists and other machines and hydraulics. These subjects are covered in 133 numbered sections dealing with forces on objects, refraction, etc.

Two manuscript volumes on theoretical and practical geometry. Both volumes are illustrated with fine pen and ink geometric diagrams for theoretical or practical application of geometrical principles. Many diagrams are shaded or colored. Additional watercolor drawings of flowers and birds are present at the end problems. The first volume contains the origin and function of geometry and the history and uses of geometry. The main body of the first volume considers definitions of geometry with Euclidean subjects and 40 problems; Methods for tracing figures, angles, lines on a terrain with 31 problems; Practice of geometry; Treatise of development of bodies and the geometrical elevation with 21 problems, and a section on Treatise of trigonometry and practice with 5 propositions and corollaries. The second volume is on practical geometry and measuring, with numerous problems.

The chapters are: Upon Attraction; Of the Prime Mover; Of the orbits of the Planets; Of Comets & their orbits; and A Review of & further discussions upon this System. The author may well be William Whiston, Newton's friend and successor. Included with the manuscript is a letter by B. F. Atkinson, of University Library, Cambridge, to the Curator at the Babson Institute stating that the manuscript is not in the hand of Henry Pemberton (1950, June 1). In modern binding.
