Letters that Richard Mohr wrote to his then fiancee Martha (Mattie) Collier. The letters are dated Oct. 3, 1861 (Point Girardeau, Mo); Feb. 13, 1862 (Bird's Point, Mo); Mar. 3, 1862 (Bird's Point, Mo); Mar. 18, 1862 (New Madrid, Mo); May 9, 1862 (Corinth, Miss); Aug. 12, 1862 (Clear Creek, Miss); Sept. 13, 1862; Dec. 3, 1862 (Tallahatchie River, Miss); and Dec. 17, 1864 (Savannah, Ga.). The long, detailed letters describe the war in Missouri, Mississippi, and Tennessee; the last letter describe Mohr's experience in the Savannah campaign.
