This material includes 7 letters and postcards written by Christopher Isherwood to his nanny, Annie Avis (1911-1933, HM 83257-83261, 83263-83264); 1 letter to his grandmother, Emily Machell-Smith (1921, Dec. 28, HM 83262); 1 postcard to his mother, Kathleen Bradshaw-Isherwood (1937, Mar. 22, HM 83265). Also included is a diary kept by Christopher Isherwood's brother, Richard Isherwood for the year 1956 (HM 83266); there is an inscription from Kathleen Bradshaw-Isherwood and various B&W photographs pasted into the volume, including photographs of Christopher Isherwood and Kathleen Bradshaw-Isherwood.

This collection consists mostly of business correspondence from Morris W. Smith and James A. Blanton to Edwin and Paul E. Aldrich. They detail the efforts the Aldriches made in mining the Apex lode and digging the Narragansett Tunnel and go into the daily work Smith and Blanton carried out managing the companies that were hired to work the mining sites. Of note is the letter dated February 19, 1897 from Morris W. Smith to Edwin Aldrich (HM 63987), which describes his opinion of the election of William McKinley (1843-1901) as the twenty-fifth president of the United States.

The collection consists of personal and business correspondence, political papers, account books, legal documents, and land papers related to the Patton family, and is particularly focused on the activities of George Smith Patton (1856-1927). Topics covered include railroads, Patton's senate campaign, irrigation, land sales, and the development of the San Marino area. Notable businesses represented in the collection include the Wilmington Transportation Company, Porter Brothers Co., San Gabriel Wine Company, Alhambra Addition Water Company, the Lindsay Water Development Company, Garvey Water Company, Huntington Land and Improvement Company, Banning Company, Pasadena Electric Light and Water Company, and the Santa Catalina Island Company. The collection consists primarily of field notes, maps, and business records related to Nathan W. Stowell and his land development and irrigation interests in the Cucamonga area, Los Angeles, and the Imperial Valley. The collection is organized alphabetically by folder title. Included are copies of the field notes from Los Angeles area surveyors Henry Hancock, George Hansen, and William P. Reynolds from the 1850s to the 1870s, as well as copies of maps and plats from the Cucamonga and Los Angeles areas. Business records include seven volumes consisting of deeds, articles of incorporation, and lawsuits related to Stowell's interests in the Cucamonga Company, the Cucamonga Water Company, the Cucamonga Fruit Land Company, and the Cucamonga Water Company. Most of these volumes include an index listing the individuals and corporations that are included. Subjects in the collection include: history of Southern California business enterprises and capitalists, irrigation, real estate development, and real property. Individuals who appear in the collection include the land and irrigation developer George Chaffey, Imperial Valley developer C. R. Rockwood, and the surveyor William Rich Hutton. The Southern Pacific Railroad Company and the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Los Angeles also appear as subjects in the collection.

The majority of the collection consists of manuscripts, correspondence, documents, drawings and ephemera directly related to James Robinson Planché and his work in the theatre, antiquarian pursuits, and costume expertise. Among the authors and correspondents are: John Baldwin Buckstone, William E. Gladstone, Benjamin Robert Haydon, Leigh Hunt, Ellen Kean, Frances Maria Kelly,Charles Kemble, Albert Denison (Baron Londesborough), Rosina Bulwer Lytton (Baroness Lytton), William Charles Macready, Richard Brinsley Peake, Jane Porter, David Roberts, William Makepeace Thackeray, and Carl Maria von Weber. The other main part of the collection is material, including fragments and clipped signatures, which were collected for the autograph value only, and have no relation to Planché or his work. Among these authors and correspondents are: Adelaide, Queen consort of William IV, William Blanchard, Richard Daly, Thomas Frognall Dibdin, George III, Edwin Henry Landseer, Robert Peel, William Pitt, Lucia E.B. Vestris, and Arthur Wellesley (Duke of Wellington). There is also a small group of letters written to Thomas Francis Dillon Croker, mainly regarding Planché and his work and family. The ephemera consists of printed material, including printed play texts, newspaper clippings, a scrapbook, and printed musical scores.
