Abraham Lincoln collection

This collection contains correspondence and documents of Abraham Lincoln dating from 1813 to 1865, especially relating to his presidency and the election of 1864, and to the Civil War, including appointments, military commissions, instructions and orders to generals, pardons, and passes. Several items pertain to slavery, including letters and notes, documents regarding gradual emancipation in Delaware, and signed copies of the 13th Amendment. There is a small amount of material for the Lincoln and Todd families. Also present are legal documents, 1838 to 1860, primarily relating to various cases handled by Lincoln during his law partnerships, especially with William H. Herndon. In addition, the collection includes items dating from 1865 to 1911 that concern Lincoln's assassination and the conspirators, his funeral, and his legacy.

The Samuel G. Hibben collection is divided into four sections: articles, photographs, correspondence, and ephemera. The bulk of the collection consists of articles, both handwritten and printed, and most written by Hibben. The rest are lighting-related articles kept by Hibben, sent to him by colleagues or through the Westinghouse Company. These articles are arranged alphabetically by title, in Boxes 1-3. Box 4 contains articles specifically related to projects in which Hibben was involved, such as the lighting of the Statue of Liberty or the 1939 New York World's Fair, and committees he was a part of, such as the Electrical Historical Foundation. Box 5 contains miscellaneous unattributed articles, and photographs, mostly of the 1939 New York World's Fair, the White House, and various landmarks being lit at night. Box 6 contains correspondence, arranged by date, most being either written by Hibben or directed to his attention. The majority of this correspondence relates to various electrical committees. Box 7 consists of ephemera, and includes photographic negatives, diagram sketches, and blueprints.

Edwin B. Janes collection

A collection of 238 items which consists of manuscripts and letters assembled by Edwin B. Janes. The first series of miscellaneous manuscripts contains individual letters by American political, military, and literary figures of the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Included in this material is a leaf from the docket of the court in Painesville, Ohio, detailing the conviction of Joseph Smith, Jr., of assault and battery of his brother-in-law Calvin W. Stoddard (April 21, 1835), also documents relating to slavery and abolitionism, a small group of correspondence of John Stuart Skinner, and a group of letters and military records related to the Civil War in Ohio. The second series, arranged alphabetically by author, is the professional and political correspondence of Albert Gallatin Riddle, chiefly letters addressed to him from 1847 to 1870. The third series, arranged chronologically, contains personal, professional, and political correspondence of Andrew J. Williams (1852-1900).

Hazard-Dyson Collection

This collection contains an unpublished typewritten manuscript, ca. 1962, with 326 photographs, entitled "Californias Romantic Ranchos: The History, Stories and Legends of the Haciendas, with a Roll of the Rancheros, a Complete List of the Land Grants of California, and Biographies of Famous Personalities Spanish, Mexican and American," by journalist and editor Verne Dyson (1879-1971). The photographs date from ca. 18681922 and include adobes, early homes and towns, missions and prominent pioneers of California. There are also 15 engravings and several printed illustrations and maps removed from other texts, as well as a 19th century abstract of title - a history of A. W. Timms land transactions on Rancho Palos Verdes, California, ca. 1855-1878.In addition, Boxes 6 and 7 contain 121 photographs that depict a variety of views of Southern California with the "Hazard-Dyson Collection" stamp. These include photographs presumably by George Hazard, ca. 1890-1914, as well as other late 19th and early 20th century photographs by commercial photographers. In 2016, these photographs were removed from the Huntington Librarys Photographic Files (PF) and reunited with the rest of the collection. The photographs retain the "photPF" call number on the back of the image.

Elizabeth Stoddard Huntington letter to Harriet Huntington

The collection consists of the personal and business papers of Henry E. Huntington. There is material related to the Huntington, Holladay, and Metcalf families, but most of the collection deals with Huntington's business interests in Southern California, railways, real estate, and industry. Series 2. Henry E. Huntington and his family includes biographical information, newspaper clippings, photographs, scrapbooks, ephemera, and physical objects. There is material related to the Huntington Land and Improvement Company, Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, and the Pacific Electric Railway Company as well as other businesses in Los Angeles County, Orange County, and San Gabriel Valley, California. This material includes business records, account books, annual reports, correspondence, maps, tracts, balance sheets, and others. There is also material related to the founding of the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens including auction catalogs, invoices, receipts, and bills for art and rare books, and information regarding a lawsuit about Huntington's estate tax after his death, and the passing of Proposition 15, in 1930, which exempted The Huntington from paying California property tax. There is also material related to Collis P. Huntington and his business interests and Arabella Huntington. Also included are the blueprints for the Huntington's San Marino residence. Series 3. Correspondence contains over 22,000 pieces of personal and business correspondence spanning 1794 to 1970. The physical objects include Henry E. Huntington's lunch box, razors, traveling trunk, and other items.

Society of Friends in Ohio collection

Collection of papers relating to the Society of Friends in Ohio (Orthodox). Included are communications and epistles received by Ohio Yearly Meeting from the Yearly Meetings in Philadelphia, New York, and Maryland; minutes and other records of the Stillwater, Short Creek, and Redstone Monthly and Quarterly Meetings, marriage announcements, certificates, and other miscellaneous records, including a proposal submitted to the Yearly meeting for establishing labor schools, approximately 1840. The collection also contains some personal letters discussing religious practice, theology, history, child rearing, etc. Also included are: an epistle from Women Friends Meeting in London to Women Friends Yearly Meeting in Philadelphia, 1789, two addresses to a "Spiritual Improvement Society", by Edward Hoops, 1840, two short memoirs of the underground railroad and Quaker abolitionists, and a copy of August Diamond's Levi Coffin, the friend of the slave, published for the Friends' Tract Association (London : Headley Bros.; New York : Friends' Book & Tract Committee), approximately 1915. The collection also contains a bound manuscript "Memoirs of Rachel E. Paterson, 1828-1869." Rachel E. Paterson (born 1810) was a Quaker preacher, daughter of James Edgerton and Anne Hall, members of Stillwater Monthly Meeting (Orthodox). The manuscript consists of copies of letters that she exchanged with her family.
