- Description
- This German manuscript volume was probably prepared in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, 1860-1862. It contains the signature of the author at the top right and his name stamp on the bottom right of the title page; all of the text is done in very clean Gabelsberger shorthand. The text is organized first with general details of the plants from the Plant Kingdom, starting with plant cells and anatomy: leaves, flowers, fruit and seeds; then embryology and seed germination. There are numerous illustrative drawings, many in color, drawn in the margin with exceptional detail (p. 1-63). There is additional text to complement the drawings (p. 64-80) with description of Linnean System followed by the Ludwig Reichenbach (1793-1879) classification scheme for plants (p. 81-167). Additionally, there is the "Alphabetisches Register" (p. 169-191) with Foetsch's signature at the end. Pages 207-208 contain the Gabelsberger list of botanical topics with page to find information. The name of the scribe is written at the end of the register, with the date of completion of 14 February 1862.
