Description: Two manuscript volumes of lecture notes written by an unidentified American student (possibly with the initials "C.H."); written in a legible hand with numerous diagrams and illustrations in the text. The lectures were held at the Polytechnikum Karlsruhe in Germany (now the Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe). Volume 1, dated 1861-1864, contains lecture notes on the construction of machinery and is followed by the printed text of Tafeln zu Dr. Redtenbacher's Vortragen uber Maschinenbau in 13 nach dem Vortrag folgenden Lieferungen, 1862. Volume 2, dated 1862-1863, contains notes from the lectures of Reinhard Baumeister, Franz Keller and Hermann Sternberg; the lectures cover such subjects as bridges, cofferdams, practical arched construction, the Mt. Cenis tunnel, water works, and the process of tendering. Both volumes are damaged, with missing spines, though a portion of the spine from Volume 2 has been preserved.

The volume contains Ogier's notes from several lectures on Chemistry. The notebook also includes miscellaneous drawings throughout. On the verso of the first flyleaf is the signature of Samuel S. Robertson, repeated twice. The volume may have been his and he copied the notes from Ogier's lectures.

Miscellaneous typescript and manuscript notes relating to the lectures and teachings of Ralph M. Pearson, 1929-1938

A collection of miscellaneous typescript and manuscript notes primarily relating to the lectures and teachings of Ralph M. Pearson, 1929-1938. There appear to be four separate groups of papers, totaling approximately 62 sheets of material. First group: Four typescript pages, in outline form, of notes entitled "Case Conference Problems in Group Guidance" by Richard D. Allen. These notes are not dated. Second group: A collection of typescript series of lecture notes for a lecture series, interspersed with manuscript notes from each of those lectures. These lectures are part of a numbered lecture series, primarily relating to modern painting and painters. These are from University Extension lectures, and are dated 1929 and 1938. The first sheet is an assignment sheet for Credit Students. There are eight numbered lectures, each on an aspect of Modernism and painting. There are more manuscript notes than typescript notes. Third group: Two items. The first is a printed and typescript receipt of payment for Ralph M. Pearson's Design Workshop; the second is a typescript letter of confirmation for receipt of payment for the workshop. Both are on Ralph M. Pearson letterhead, and both are dated December, 1937. Both are also addressed to Mabel Spofford. Fourth group: A fifteen-page (15) typescript transcript of a radio interview entitled "What is Modern Art" with Ralph M. Pearson, by Leah Plotkin. The transcript is from WQXR radio station, Federal Theatre, dated December 28, 1937.

This group of material consists of seven packets of notes and material, including photographs, that Campbell created for a series of lectures about the history and Indians of the American Southwest. The titles of the lectures are: The Indians; Spanish Explorers; The Indian Pueblos of New Mexico; Stories about the Pueblo Indians; The Conquest of New Mexico and the Mexican Settlers; The American Occupation; and Texas and Arizona. The lectures discuss the following subjects: the Acoma, Laguna, Navajo, Pueblo and Zuni Indians; Arizona history; California history; New Mexico history; Texas history; and Taos Pueblo. Campbell also uses material written by Mary Hunter Austin and Charles Fletcher Lummis in her lectures. The photographs are of Southwest Indians and landscapes.
