Charles Ferguson of All Souls' Church of Kansas City Missouri, Jordan thanks the Reverend for his kind letter and agrees with him that the "University spirit" should shape modern democracy and furthermore, the future of our country and others relies on the training of a large body of men to see reality and have the courage to believe what they see. Dr. Merritt Starr and his friend were hunting around Resurrection Bay when the 1964 Good Friday Alaska Earthquake hit. In this letter to his family, he recounts story of surviving the earthquake, landslide and resulting tsunami. The letter further recounts the immediate aftermath and the reconstruction in the weeks after the disaster.
