    John Torrey letter to Matthew H. Webster

    Manuscripts

    In this letter, written to a friend and fellow naturalist in Albany, Torrey talks about his book Flora of the northern and middle sections of the United States, which at this time was being issued in parts. He also asks his friend for botanical samples and mentions Lewis David von Schweinitz's book Monograph of the North American species of the genus Carex (1825).

    Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley letters to Sir John Bowring

    A collection of letters written by Mary Shelley from 1817 to 1849. The majority of the letters are to her stepsister Clair Clairmont (1798-1879), but there are also several letters written to English poet Leigh Hunt (1784-1859) and his wife, Marianne Hunt (1788-1857), and one letter to English publisher and author Charles Ollier (1788-1859). There is a bound volume containing letters from Mary Shelley to British politician, writer, and literary translator Sir John Bowring, from 1828 to 1837, while he was editor of the Westminster Review.

    Fulton Reynolds letter

    Manuscripts

    An extensive letter from a young Pennsylvanian who joined the United States Army and had been assigned to the 13th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Meade, South Dakota. The letter, written to his sister Laverne, describes conditions at his army post and the wider Black Hills region; he writes about the farmers in the area, the weather and landscape, and his fellow soldiers.

    Robert E. (Robert Edwin) Peary letter to George Rockwood

    Manuscripts

    In this letter, written to New York City photographer, George Rockwood, Peary is paying for and asking about photographs of himself (that Rockwood took and sent to him) that he had received yet. Peary also promises to send Rockwood a copy of his "Arctic narrative" (his book Northward over the "great ice," published in 1898). The letter may be written by another person, but Peary signed it. There is also a note, possibly by Rockwood, "Have ordered 1dz" on page two.
